This was already fitted to the bike I bought recently.

Is there an annual subscription? Should I inform BMW that I have the bike? Should I “test it” to see if it works?

Looked on line but can’t find much other than it cost originally about £275.

I think its part of the bike and works whoever owns it , as for a test , I would not , have a chat with your dealer first . Have it on mine , all I know is if shit happens press it otherwise don't.
Google is your friend . Boing Boing

It works through the phone you have a Bluetooth connection to the bike.

If (when) you ride through an area of poor reception you get a nice scary warning telling you to ride to the nearest dealer. Ignore it, and it will go away.

Beyond that, RTFM.

I dont think it works through your phone, i think it is autonomous.

it should work if you press the button also should work if the bike thinks you have crashed. the ones in cars talk to you

Nope. It works through the phone you have connected by Bluetooth to the bike.

no it isn´t my dealer demoed mine and no phone was connected to the bike yet

Oops, apologies - my mistake. It's the position/location data that comes from the phone apparently. Can't remember a bloody thing these days!

If the bike falls over there is a countdown in which you can clear the alarm by pressing the button before it rings up the assistance line [provided it has a signal],no additional mobile connections are required. They tend to go off a lot at the BMW off road school when the bikes are dropped and cost around £80 to have them permanently disabled at the dealers.

I have it on my bike. When showing the new bike to my mate we decided to press the button to see what happened. Like two naughty schoolboys we stood nervously but agog while the bike made a telephone call. The answering voice asked if I was alright?
I shamefacedly admitted that I’d pressed the button to see what would happen. The answering voice replied ‘ok sir no problem’ although his tone clearly meant, ‘what did you think would happen, dickhead’.

its quite easy to test, get some help and low the bike down as low as possible. this kicks the SOS into action and you have about 10 secs o push it off,or you get a voice speaking to you through the mini speaker, they ask if you are ok and need assistance, you just say I am fine thanks , and she goes back to reading her book

and by the way they know were you are, when mine was tested the operator gave us our location

:blast,

if only you knew

This is what happens every time you press that button ...

And it has to be paid for somehow

Definitely not dependant on a phone being connected. I fell off my bike on the BMW ORS course a number of times and it triggered the system. We were briefed before we started the day to turn it off (if we could) before it connected!

That would be how the Americans would do it, then after the glitz a voice would say 'do you have med ins. policy no. sir, no?.......click.

Definitely doesn't need a phone for it to work. My dealer positively encouraged me to try it out when I got home so that I knew what to expect. The BMW lady who answered was very pleased to hear I was just trying it out and thanked me for my time! Amazing really. Hope I never need it, but it is reassuring that it works.
