2017 KTM Adventure Range.

How many cars have a chain drive ? Nothing wrong with drive shafts.

Well there must be something wrong with BMW ones judging by the number of failures/replacements reported !

You're getting your facts muddled again.

Is the Final drive no longer part of the drive shaft then ???

Resurrecting an old thread that hasn't had a post for nearly a year?

If I had the time (or the inclination), I could find many threads/ posts outlining all the problems on your beloved KTM, but I can't be arsed.

I have a feeling you may have a bit too much time on your hands at the moment.:D

Leave him be - chances are he will never actually get a new 1290 same has happened with his order for the GT :augie

How are you getting on with the Poundland ;) heat deflector thingies (did you add any more heat reflecting bacofoil?).

Andres

Definitely a significant improvement and worth the £3'ish I paid KTM for them - not felt the need to do anything further at this stage ;)

Still got a SA insulated rear manifold on back order - latest update on delivery is now October :blast

I simply typed in "shaft failure" in the search window on this form and many threads came up,but as that one stretched to 23 pages I assumed it may have some truth.Took about 10 seconds.

Should I have picked one of the many others :

Which beloved KTM are we talking about ? Only have my 950 Super Enduro and that hasn't even blown a bulb in the 8 years I've owned it.Infact I've owned well over a dozen KTMs since 2003 and in those 13 years I've had a head gasket blow on an Adv 950 (2004) in 40 degrees heat and it still got me home fine, from S of France and then a clutch cable snap on a Duke 640 in 2005,and that's it.
The few BMWs I've owned have ALL had problems, the last one I lost 75% of it's value and basically gave it away after such a major issue.

Should have known you pop up for another dig.
I would have loved to get the GT but as I explained previously, due to KTMs ridiculous 'ordering' system,my dealer was unable to secure one anytime soon, despite the odd larger dealer and one in the showroom.
Another reason why I've placed an order for the 1290R unseen and due Feb,or so my dealer tells me.
Obviously I'll change my mind before then just so you can pop up and point it out.

...........I will make a diary note for February then :D :beerjug:

may I point out a little flaw/s in your point....

This is a BMW GS forum that's been going for 15 years
The GS has been around for two decades
The GS has shaft drive
If you search for "shaft failure" on such a bike on such a long standing forum, one with more members called Sidney than a KTM forum could muster in total then what the hell would you expect to find after 10 fucking seconds.

.....and to think they let you fly planes :blast

The GS may has indeed been around for 2 decades so why are most of the drive/shaft failure from the last few years ? That was my point,10 fucking seconds or not ,as you so eloquently put it....

And the reply was initially because mrtee43 was pointing out that there was nothing wrong with shaft drive,so why have there been so many issues with the drive on BMWs in the last 5 years.Don't think there are pages and pages of people detailing chains snapping etc,KTM or any brand....

The current 1050/ 1190's and 1290's. You're saying that modern BMW's are crap, so I'm comparing modern KTM's (not that there is any comparison to be made). Look at the numbers of 1050/ 1190/ 1290's sold, compared to the GS, work out the number of issues with those and the GS in relation to numbers sold, and I can confidently say that you'll find that the KTM's will have a higher percentage ratio of issues to bikes sold than the GS.;)

I can't be bothered to search all the forums for issues with the older models, but I'm sure if you search, you'll find them.

I've not heard of any significant problems with any 1190/1290 and I have a few mates with both.Certainly never heard of engines needing replacement within a year due to shoddy production.

I would certainly say that modern BMs don't have the build quality or reliability of older models going back to the 90s and beyond. The three I've had were crap compared to my 1100 and 1150 GS/GSA.

Many on here agree, but strangely you have never had a single issue with any BMW and your bikes appear to have a different paint finish and build quality to every body elses.....

Let's just settle this once and for all;

BWMs are shit bikes.

KTMs are the best fucking bikes in the whole wide world (apart from Moto Guzzi of course!).

Right, thats the boring shit sorted, let's get back to the detail of how on earth KTM can possibly improve on such awesome bikes for 2017............

You know how Americans living on the east and west coasts will defend a point by saying you cannot use statistics which include all the trailer trash from the middle bits?

Well referencing the LC when talking about GS's is the same if you get my drift :D
