I reckon that headlight is going to look like a baboons Arse...

The 1290 gets laced 21in front and 18in rear rims – which are shod with Continental Trail Attack II or Continental TKC 80 from the factory – and are tubeless thanks to the unique rim design. They’re also fitted with KTM’s Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which checks pressures constantly, and warns the rider in case of pressure loss.

Those big rims roll on fully adjustable WP suspension with a full 220mm of travel front and rear. Stiffer springs in the inverted 48mm WP fork, and a progressively damped PDS shock absorber ensure the chassis can take whatever is dished out.

The 1301cc V-twin was used in the 2016 Super Adventure, but for 2017 it gets Euro4 homologation, and its intake has gained newly developed expansion chambers for improved refinement and smoother power delivery, especially in the low and mid range.

1290 S

This is the direct replacement for the 1190 Adventure, and comes with everything the R boasts, but skewed firmly towards tarmac riding, rather than being genuinely dual-purpose.

The biggest and most obvious change, beside the lack of orange frame and crash bars, is the use of 19in front and 17in rear cast wheels in place of the larger laced items on the R. They are then complimented by shorter travel suspension to lower the centre of gravity – and seat height (from 890mm on the R to an adjustable 860/875 on the S).

That suspension is WP semi-active front and rear, allowing riders to select the best option for their load and conditions, from Comfort, Street, Sport and Off-road via the control menu – even on the go.

The S gets all the same electronic assistance for the rider, too – including Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC), multi-mode and lean-angle sensitive combined ABS. Just like the R, you can monitor all those systems via the all-new 6.5in full-colour TFT dash.

The S models comes on Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres as standard fitment in 120/70 R 19 and 170/60 R 17 tyre sizes.

See this bike at Motorcycle Live this November 19-27.

First impressions look ok - not sure about new headlight but sure it will grow on folks eventually ;)

Putting cast wheels on the S makes sense and specs looks about the same as the current bikes - no mention of cruise control yet
So in effect we are getting the current bikes with the 1290 motor and a bit of a styling update/new dash/different screen and that's about it - which is no bad thing :thumb

Looks like my end can, luggage and ergo seat will be a straight swap "if" I eventually consider changing :augie

A vid of the unveiling here
