..... all from a simple bolt that is breaking inside the transmission. It has occurred on both manual and DCT versions.

Looks like this bolts to the crankshaft, part #9 here, which sheers off & lets #6 & #8 drop into the clutch, oil pump chain drive, which then locks up the trans: -

Here is a bit more info from Goldwing Doc, including the fuel pump recall: -

Yes, I saw this, and I can imagine how it would make a mess if that bolt failed. However, stuff breaks occasionally and it would be interesting to know how many owners this has actually happened to. If it's a few isolated cases then ok, but if it's an epidemic (which I doubt) then we'll see how good the Honda mothership's warranties/customer relation are. If it is a real problem, then it's a potential safety issue and then Honda will have to sort it out warranty or not.

On a happier note it would appear that my 'Wing's fuel pump is not affected by the recall. (y)

I doubt the numbers are that significant @Big Si, but for the sake of an $8 bolt that is reasonably accessible it make sense to address the issue. So I suspect a recall will follow, or maybe just a bulletin to change the bolt at next service, once Honda analyse the reasons for failure

My logic suggests this will only afflict manual trans bikes, where slamming the throttle shut, or a hard downshift could put significant reverse torque through the system. Surely the DCT would simply de-couple drive. Then again, if it's a metallurgical issue, it could be the whole fleet 2018> ......... we shall have to wait & see.

Drivetrains have locked up on DCT bikes as well.

"Just" change a bolt ................ your having a laugh - eh ................

A figure of speech - Forum chatter in the US seems to be rather exaggerating the work that may be involved. It appears to be a relatively simple job, certainly nothing like the FJR1300 6-speed gearbox recall.

As @Clifton says, there are reports of failures on DCT bikes, 2 so far I understand (but not confirmed), the large majority are manual trans.
