2020 R 1250 GS TE Motorrad Navigator V1

I had 5 or 6 before giving up and buying a Garmin XT - I know the Navigator is made by Garmin.

That included two of the latest type.

Hope you have better luck with yours. :beerjug:

Crikey - that's a lot of failures.. Fingers crossed..

Based on riders feedback, the Nav VI issues seems to not being resolved, in spite of all the 'Upgrades' from Garmin. It puzzles me, since the XT seems to be built in the same way when it comes to the screen design, and the XT seems to not having any issues.

Anyway, for my own Nav VI, when I got a replacemant nav, I sealed the gap between the screen and the case, and then I put a 3D printed frame arounde the edges, which was also saused with sealant, to make sure there is no way that the edges of the screen does get exposed to any kind of pretty much anything.

I regularly powerwash it (though gently) and so far it has been working for 2 riding seasons without any trace of gosting, except when the screen gets loaded with dirt. (which is cured by cleaning the screen).

what did you seal it with?

I discussed buying a Nav VI with my local Motorrad dealer to fit my new (2019) GSA as it had Nav prep. My Zumo 660 unit fitted in the Nav cradle and charged fine (obviously no whizz wheel functionality) but I wanted something a bit more up to date.

My dealer told me to avoid the pain of buying a Nav VI as he would only have to replace it repeatedly when it failed, and recommended either the Connected Ride cradle for my iPhone or a Zumo XT gps unit.

I found a deal through the Blue Light/Armed Forces Discount scheme and got a brand new XT for 40% off at £264 direct from Garmin. I then spent the difference between the discounted and retail price on getting a 3DAM adapter and a 3D printed 'bumper' to protect the GPS unit. I have to say, the thing is bloody excellent and I am well happy with my purchase.

If you must have a dedicated GPS device, the XT is a very good unit.

If only BMW could introduce a Zumo XT based unit of their own that works with the Whizz Wheel, it would solve a lot of issues and be worth buying.

I agree. The XT is everything the Nav VI should have been.
However, for my way of using the GPS, I find the Zoom by Wonderwheel feature is very useful, so for this very reason, I have not replaced the Nav VI. Besides, the modified , sealed, unit has been working just fine since I got it two years ago. The catch is that if the sealed unit needs to be replaced the sealing will probably void the guarantee. I think removing the frame and any trace of sealent will be Mission Impossible.
For this reason, I have not published the stl file on Thingiverse. But I don't mind sharing...
