2021 GS Software version

I have ordered a new GS 1250 ( triple Black ) for collection Sept, Can anyone tell me the latest software version please ?

You won't be able to tell unless you connect it to a diagnostic tool. I can find out the latest i-level version later if you want.

The TFT dash version is ONLY for the dash itself

Fred.....the Australian version might differ from UK version. I thought what Hawkeye has posted was the bike software clarification, wasn’t aware it was just a TFT dash version.

Versions are the same but they can be coded differently

I wasn't aware of that, as the software version generally quoted when people ask, is what shows on the TFT - plus when BMW do update it, it takes 3 - 3.5 hours for it to complete once connected to the machine - which for just a TFT version is one heck of a long time!

What seems daft is why they only show the TFT version - given they can do virtually anything with TFT screens, why not show the versions of every bit of software that can be updated?

Most TFT updates take a much shorter time unless its really out of date. Doubt many owners would know what they are looking at to be honest, even dealers don't view the individual modules like that as it's not really how the dealer software works.

is it just me,why does it matter? must have the latest? no need if the bike needs an update by the time that happens theres prob a newer one available,i really dont get all this worry about stuff that will in all probability never be a prob.soon people on here will be barking to the dealers"i aint buying that brand new bike untill the latest update as quoted on ukgser is downloaded!"

It helps with the connections between phone to nav to TFT .... Apple/Samsung, all move a lot quicker than BMW, so it just helps having the latest setup. That’s my feelings anyway

Have to agree with this post. I am still running 022_005_041 with absolutely no problems. A new bike will come with the latest software and Samsung will not have rewritten the Bluetooth protocol.

Zero reason to believe a new bike will come with the latest software outside of when it was built.

I expect the factory to load up software into the bike after it has been built, and I expect them to be using the latest software available at the time of upload.
If newer software comes along after the bike has left the production line, I expect this to be checked when performing the first service.

I do my own service on all my bikes. One of the arguments from the sellers for allowing BMW to perform the maintenance is to get the latest software.
However, my philosophy is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". As long as my bike works without any problems, I'm happy with the way it is.
I've had quite a few vehicles over time, and when they have been serviced, the shop makes a big deal out of having upgraded software for this and that. Then I drive of, and notice nothing different...

I'm all for upgrading software if the current software means some kind of problem with the current operation. But if so, I consider it a faulty component, and expect the dealer to fix it within the warranty periode.

As with any software it depends on bugs. Just because it’s an embedded system, doesn’t mean it doesn’t have issues. There’s only 2 reasons for an update; 1) fixing bugs 2) introducing new features. BMW doesn’t seem to instruct dealers to upgrade unless there is an identified fault. Dealers seems to be reluctant to do it without charge for the same reason (they can’t bill the workshop time to the mothership). The question is - if the bike is working with no issues will an update improve things or introduce new problems? I had mine updated and the service reset went haywire and is reporting service overdue since Feb, even though it had an annual service 4 months and 500 miles previously. On the plus side, the range to empty is now very accurate. It was the first update it had since I bought it.
