These ere new fangled rear lights on the R1250 GS

I take it the centre tail/brake light now only illuminates when braking ?

Can it be programmed back to how it was in the good old days when a tail lamp was a bloody tail lamp and therefore permanently illuminated at night even when not using the brakes ?

I followed a 2021 GS the other day, while doing my IAM National Observer test. The new lights work really well IMO. The differentiation between tail light (in the indicators) and brake light (in the central light) is more obvious than in the old version and this must make the bike a bit safer.

Why would you want it re-programmed to the old-fashioned method?

I did my ROSPA / IAM refresh last week and the instructors / examiners both said the brake light was a huge improvement.

Not sure I will bother with the Denali B6 now.

Same here, mate following me at the weekend said the new system is really good.

I just don't like the way the flashing indicator becomes almost invisible once the brake lights come on

Fair enough. I guess we all see things differently. I didn’t perceive any issue with that when I was following the bike and I’d rather have a more obvious brake light than a more obvious indicator.

As for the indicator light getting washed out by the brake light, then under considerate riding the indicator would be on longer without the brake light being on than with, by which time the rider's intentions have been signalled. (On a tangent, drivers who brake then signal are a real irritation/nuisance).

The general gripe about the indicator being washed out by the running light remains, and indeed multi clustered lights on all vehicles rely more on having an attentive driver behind you.

But to go back to the subject of how the running lights and brake lights now work on the GS, I think it's an excellent improvement, and front to back the new lighting is a winner for me.

I went to have a look at one up close today and have a blast around the Charlbury TT

To be honest. It doesn't concern me as much as I thought it would. Even my mate who followed me around on his 2019 GSA commented on how much better the rear lights/indicators are :augie
