Doing a job today on my 22 plate GSA and noticed that the left spotlight wire had rubbed against the rocker cover and worn a groove into the coating. I had to use a cable tie to pull the wire away from the rocker even though there are 3 clips attaching the wire to the crash bars

Concerned that this might cause a spot light failure in the future I rode over to Jefferies for them to have a look.

The service manager informed me that he had never heard of this occurring before but took the bike into the workshop to investigate the problem.

When he returned they said that they had tried to polish the mark out but it was too deep, but also discovered the same problem on the right side. More cable ties were utilised. Both spotlight wires were routed correctly.

Strange thing is that although both rocker covers were marked, neither of the wires showed no signs of wear.

He then checked the new stock waiting to be delivered to customers on a 72 plate and discovered they were all the same with the wires on both sides rubbing against the rocker covers.

I've been offered new rocker covers under warranty and the service manager is going to inform BMW of the potential problem

Whilst in the showroom I checked the second hand stock and could not find a bike with the same problem.
