Sid and Ann's chill out weekend, and we had 2 weeks to do it it in, so thats a steady ride down and back and a possible week at Sid and Ann's place.
So first port of call is Newhaven to catch the 1.15am ferry to Dieppe that will get us into France around 6.15am French time, its the weekend of the Silverstone motogp so there are many French bikes at the port on their way back.
Sailing was uneventful and we managed to get a bit of shut eye for 2-3 hours before arriving on time in Dieppe, off loading was quick and we were on our way to our first stop for the night which was Tours. We had decided to bypass Rouen and take one of the little BAC ferries across the Seine, once across the Seine it was a pretty uneventful off peage ride down to tours for our first overnight stop.20230806_233927.jpg20230807_010805.jpg20230807_074148.jpg20230807_074542.jpg

So suitably rested after our Derbyshire to Tours stint of 450 mile, its now time to get back on the bike to our next destination Saint Jean Le Cole for a 2 night stop over, again we will be traveling on smaller roads and no Peage, infact we never touched a peage the whole time we were away.
On the way down to saint Jean we had a stop planned at Loches to have a look at the place, very nice to, the town of Loches is classed as one of the most beautiful sites in France and is a citadel town and many years ago (12th 13th century) was fought over by the French and English.
We had a couple of hours wandering around Loches before moving onto our next stop Saint Jean, our arrival would be around 4pm20230808_104628.jpg20230808_105244.jpg20230808_105959.jpg20230808_112444.jpg20230808_112801.jpg

So Saint Jean Le Cole what a stunning place, it is a medieval village in the north of the Dordogne, in fact here is a link with pics and info.

So the next day we had a little route planned to go to a town called Brantome another really nice place to spend a few hours, we had a really chilled half a day there pictures below are a mix from Saint Jean and Brantome.DSC03483.JPGDSC03493.JPGDSC03501.JPGDSC03522.JPGDSC03548.JPGDSC03551.JPGDSC03562.JPGDSC03568.JPGDSC03572.JPG

Ok after spending two nights in Saint Jean it was time to head off to our final destination Sids place.
Now there are many pictures on the forum of the event and many words written, so i wont go on about it, suffice to say everyone there had a fabulous time and we got to meet up with people we had never met before.
The big Gal and I stayed 7 nights camped at Sids and loved every minute, there was plenty to see in and around the area and the ride outs that were organised were very good, all in all a good time was had by every one. Pictures below taken at places around the area.

Homeward bound and our destination for the night was going to be Ségur-le-Château another stunning little Medieval village around 200km from Sids, we would be stopping at a couple of places on the way, they would be Domme, Beyanac, and Saint Robert. Pictures of Ségur-le-Château below

Leaving Ségur-le-Château we would head back to Tours for an overnight stop before riding on to Dieppe to take the Ferry home to Derbyshire, mostly uneventful apart from witnessing a fatal RTA just this side of Rouen involving a Ducati Multistrada who was 2 up and a Toyota saloon of some type, not very nice and shook the big gal up more than a little.

All being well we will be attending Sids next year and i will hopefully be planning as good a route as we did this year.

great report and lovely pics lee, hope to see you both next year

Thank you, Lee. I had forgotten about the little ferries that ply their way, back and forth across some French rivers.

Might it be possible for you to share your routes: Newhaven > Sid’s > Dieppe?

I, for one, would appreciate that!
Great report that Lee, thanks for posting (y)

Stunning scenery,

Might have to go a little off piste next time , the peage's were good, but a bit ... boring :D

Really enjoyed that, an absolutely delightful journey with stunning architecture and history, France is just the best for that.

Thank you for taking the time to do that.

Thanks' for that, really interesting and great photos. Am planning a couple of trips to France and saw you stayed near Tours. I found this place nearby in a small town called Blere. Looks nice and have booked for 2024. Food and accommodation look nice albeit not on the cheap side.
Logis Hotel Le Cheval Blanc

As requested the route's i took to and from Sids, please be aware these are the route's i chose to take, i did not make these to suit anyone else, use them or do not use them its up to you, they were made to avoid peage and take you on some smaller roads and some nationals, it also takes you onto a ferry to cross the Seine, now be aware if its misty and they cant see the other side of the river the ferry does not go.
