2024 GSX-S1000GX

Sounds like chopsie and neevesey found it a bit boring.

I did take a look at this bike at the bike show and there’s a lot of plastic, looks a bit cheaply put together.

Yep! It was a first bike we went to see at EICMA, and we were quite disappointed with the way it is put together. I recon Suzuki dealers will be giving them away at a discounted price, and lob panniers at it as a FOC sweetener, before the end of next season.

I might be completely wrong. A 70 year old Jimmy who in the year 2000 was a power ranger, racing up and down the A5 in front of a supper sausage caffe, might be in love with it and it’ll be like wearing a pair of favorite slippers again.
For the younger generation, it’ll likely be a bit underwhelming, despite all the tech that Suzuki had thrown at it.
Hoofing it out of Alpine hairpins, naaahh, sounds like it is lacking in that department, to make you grin from ear to ear.
Pottering along said Alpine hairpins it’ll do that just fine, and likely to be a fab mile munching machine for the French autoroute etc, if that’s your game.

Is there a Suzuki topbox for this bike?

Nope as already mentioned above somewhere

Thanks - for me it is out for that reason. Tracer GT+ or S1000XR would be a better choice - hmmmmmmm

Suzuki has announced the release of the GSX-S1000GX+, a new version of the standard GX adventure tourer that comes equipped with a set of panniers as standard (hence the + in the name).

The two colour-cordinated, 36-litre panniers should provide plenty of storage space, with each casecapable of accepting a full-face helmet.

The new GX+ will set you back £15,599, which is £1,100 more than the standard bike. If this sounds a lot for a set of clamshell panniers, you'd be forgiven, but Suzuki says it actually represents a £175 saving on buying them separately.

Took one out this morning.
Just been put on demo and had 1 mile on the clock.

I set off and thought it felt a bit gutless. Noted it was in C mode and remembered that Suzuki uses letters for modes and that A was usually full power. So stuck it in A and off she flew !
If anything a bit too twitchy but B mode was perfect.

Didn’t give it a real workout as brande new tyres and air temperature of just 3 degrees.

Initial impressions from an hour’s ride:

Riding position more cramped than my Tracer 9 GT+
Bars feel quite high and narrow.
Screen seems pretty good .
Switch gear feels a bit budget, especially compared to my GT+

The motor is bloody fabulous-BUT it does encourage you to ride like a twat.Very smooth quickshifter too.

Luggage is extra, unless you go for the new Plus version which is pricier.

Overall impression from a quick ride-it’s a good bike but for me nowhere near as good as my GT+.

The OTR is only £700 less than my GT+ but that doesn’t include panniers, heated grips and main stand which are standard on the GT+.
Plus the Yamaha has ACC where’s the GX only has normal cruise.

Also the GX can’t take a top box (at least it’s not offered by Yamaha).

I see the GX more of an upright sports bike which can take luggage rather than a tourer.

The triple CP3 motor of the Tracer is much more suited to touring and/or carrying a pillion.

Ok, it might only make 117bhp compared to 150 of the GX, but the power is where you want it.

So it’s great bike but I can’t see it being a huge seller.I’d rather buy the 800RE if I wanted something to play on.

Sounds like a sports bike rather than an attempt at a serious adv/tourer. The GT has my vote. Brakes on a lot of Yams and Suzi's I've ridden have all seemed to lack feel at the front end, maybe needing braided hoses or different pads or both?

You did, but you confirmed what I was thinking was all I was trying to say. Perhaps I should have started with "so what you're saying is....". I'd like a ride on one but it wouldn't be a serious contender for me. More a weekend blast sort of machine probably better suited to the power rangers...

Interesting that you note the riding position is more cramped than the Yamaha, another reason for me to be happy with my Gt+ (y)

The pegs feel lower and further back on the Tracer
