For Sale 2025 Norton Commando 961 SP PCP - £50.43/month

Poppycock.

My riding is recreational only.

I get to ride a handbuilt bike made in England. One of the last ones that'll ever be built.

I'll do the 4,000 miles then hand it back and walk away.

But the experience and memory will stay with me.

Show me cheaper biking this side of buying a couple grand shitter.

Some people pay >£50 a month for a phone contract, I’ve never done the PCP thing but I can see why some signed up for this particular deal.
A chance to have a great looking bike with character in the garage to enjoy as much or little as you choose.

How many people have got a 916 that they paid over the odds for and dare not even add 50 miles a year riding it!
At least your £50 a month gives you the choice.

I think the Norton buying deal was the ultimate expression of consumerism

It’s so cheap why would you not (in consumerism terms)

People flocked to sign up, it was so invitational

Did they have a genuine desire for one - probably not ?

Would they have had such a desire to own/use one that they would have bought one outright-don’t be 😛 silly

Norton couldn’t shift them at retail, so they devised a scheme to get bums on seats and that was the only goal

It worked

Would I pay £600 a year (plus insurance and servicing/tyres and VED) for 2 years that I wouldn’t really ride much (as demonstrated by 200 miles a year) - of course not

We have a Norton dealer 5 miles away and it would have been easy to walk in and sign up for £50/month when I went into town for bananas and a pint of milk

Consumerism at its finest - it so cheap why wouldn’t you, you’re all mugs for not joining in the ‘deal of the century’ when most of us couldn’t really see the point of spending money, for spending monies sake, on something that we didn’t actually have a genuine desire or need for

The Emperor’s new clothes spring to mind
That's an interesting take on it JB. I'd imagine that there have been customers of yours over the years who have bought £100k Bentley and only driven it a few miles a year...for it to be worth £25k some years later and they'll have been paying £10 a mile for the privilege (but been OK with that, as it was their 'luxury item' that made them feel good)...I somehow doubt you've told them that they're idiots or mentioned "Emperors new clothes"

Indeed.

In fact it motivates me to actually do the miles. A target if you will.

I get the miles under my belt without the worry of depreciation or whether it's corroding underneath.

For you
It worked
For others maybe not judging by the OP, who hasn’t managed to get it up to the first service mileage

I don’t usually finance fancy cars - only done a Ferrari once, which increased in value

Only business kit and assets

You get the principle tho....you're on a forum calling people out for their choice of bike and the fact that some will be effectively paying a few quid a mile for their PCP'd bike but I bet you'd never tell a 'normally savvy' farmer that he's daft spunking £100k on a massively depreciating 'asset'....and some of your customers have done that as you've mentioned them before.

I bought a bike nearly a year ago and haven't been out on it yet - life got in the way.

No finance, but it's insured, so that cost, depreciation and likely service it at the 12 month point although it doesn't need it.

Fifty quid for your hobby per month, used or not is nothing, unless you can't afford it.

GREAT deal that Norton PCP one. I don't like the bike, but happy for those who've enjoyed it for that amount.

I get that view completely. But you've only done 255 miles since last April. That's about £2.35 per mile in rental alone. Quite expensive.
But it's a beautiful machine, and one that will no doubt become a rarity/classic in time. So, a long term investment might be worthwhile.
What makes you think I’ve only done 255 miles?

Sorry
I heartily apologise to you all, unreservedly

It was a fantastic deal…..it’s just the few guys advertising on here already had a bike they liked riding and are the ones who didn’t need it and it was a cheap deal

I am sure there are lots of other guys who got the deals and are very happy and have used them and put miles on them….they aren’t advertising theirs

Don’t judge just by a small number who haven’t used them

It’s only the same as all the GSA riders buying bikes on pcp and handing them back after 3 years with less than 5k miles…..and there are lots of those on here. BMW are a better example of consumerism. They sell you a “go around the world bike” for weekly trips to Starbucks, then on pcp they are adding all the extras because it’s only a few pound extra per month for all those automatic technical rider aids that guys don’t need or actually use. Then you buy all the things for the bike….comfort seat cos it doesn’t come with a comfy seat, fenda extenda because the short mudguard doesn’t stop the spray etc etc……now that’s consumerism and BMW are by far the biggest experts in the field

Apologies, I meant the seller, geturelegover, but you knew that. 🤭
I didn’t see that post. To be fair, it’s not going to do a massive mileage. It’s an actual cafe racer, since that’s pretty much where it will be going!

An example of such was for sale in Penrith motorbikes a couple of weeks ago. Triple black gsa with every conceivable extra fitted. It had only done 800 miles in three years.

All that expense and only 800 miles of fun. Probably never went off road, never seen rain, just sat there with life support in the form of the optimate.
Sunday morning McDonald's poseur me thinks. Bet their boots were still shiny, and latest Rukka jacket never had a dead fly on it.

I don't honestly get this view.

I don't go off road, certainly not on a GSA, unless I have needed to. I also don't like rain, but that's nothing to do with my motorcycle. The rest is just making a point anyone buying a bike should be a die hard biker.

Your money, your choice.

Oh and no one can realy pose at McDonalds.

I respect everyone's choice, it's a bonus, they take the depreciation hit, and others enjoy the product. 👍
