2026 Tour de l'Amour with Hatcho and Dub24

Whilst we indulged in Bever (very tasty I must say), we researched our digs for the night. Being in Switzerland most places were over €200 each, a bit above budget for just one night. We eventually booked a spot, but it meant backtracking about 45kms. That said, backtracking on savage twisties has never been a problem so we set off in search of our hotel.

For the record it was dub who chose this spot. Just saying 🤣.

In all honesty, we had a good laugh about posting up the name of the hotel. Plus we knew it'd keep Doc reading about out European adventures! 😅

The apartment is savage - common living room/kitchen and we have a double room, jax, and shower each. All for the princely sum of €300 quid and including brekkie.

I'm on the right and dub is on the left...

Slightly weird setup for the jax though...lots of glass windows and doors for activities that I wouldn't consider to be spectator friendly!

After getting cleaned up we headed down to the bar for a pre-dinner beverage. Quite a saucy looking spot with lots of purple lighting.

We retired to the outdoor dining area for our meal where we were entertained by a piano player (I kid you not). Was tempted to place a request, but reckoned he probably didn't know Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood! 😊 Here's the dinner garden with the red piano just inside the door.

Dinner did not disappoint - it was top notch. I made sure to get pics after slipping up earlier at lunchtime...

Starter of cheese balls (easy now!)

My main was pork belly - delicious!

And desert was phenomenal - almond tart with icecream and honey.

All washed down with a few beers and an espresso coffee.

Having eaten like kings we rolled across the grass and back to our apartment. It was only around 10pm, but we were full to the gills. We called our respective bosses back home and then hit the scratcher for some kip. Day 2 had turned out to be a great day both on and off the bike. 😎

It's now the morning of day 3 and the other fella is still rattling the windows with his seismic snoring! Gonna need to retighten all the screws in the wooden kitchen as they're probably about halfway out by now! 😅 Was like a scene from poltergeist when I got up - all the chairs had drifted across the room overnight 🤣1000106457.jpg

So Hatcho was checking one of his many gadgets 15957.jpg
When he came upon a set of railway barriers and nearly went arse over tit into it.
Here's a picture post barrier down.
If you look closely you can see his sheriffs badge twitching like a bunny 16419.jpg

Some craic today. Dub went AWOL, I nearly married a railway crossing barrier and we bother pretended to be father and son over dinner! 😂😂. When Dub opened his grinder account in front of the waitress the game was up! 🤣. Oh, and I showed off my pole dancing skills. F*ck me I'm awesome!

To clarify the father and son story I asked the waitress to take a photo of me and my son.

She replied how ?

I said I'm 60 and he's 46 and I became a daddy at 14.
This is after when she made a big deal about the gravy being slow cooked for 16 hrs. I told her we have a similar gravy in Ireland called Bisto. She said she must look it up😇

Day 3 - Prese to Andeer

Today was a late start, it was half ten before we were rolling out of Hotel Romantica 😍. With dub dropping toxic air biscuits in the breakfast room I was keen to get out of dodge before the haz mat team arrived.

The plan today was head back over the Bernina Pass and then onto St Moritz and Chiavenna. We'd backtracked a little yesterday so got to ride the pass again.

Dub had been caught by some traffic so I pulled over to wait. No sign and when said traffic passed me by I got a tad worried. No joy on the phone so I headed back down the road. Stopped to call again and woohoo he answers the phone. 👍

Where are ye?
I'm on the road to Livigno...
Yer wha'?
On...the...road...to... Livigno
Well, that's where we came from yesterday, so ye don't want to be going there. 😊

I was just glad all was OK and nothing untoward had happened. While dub retraced his steps, I took some pics and video footage on the bike. To celebrate all being OK we stopped into the café at the top of the pass and I treated diddums to a coffee and slice of lemon cake. Have to say, the Bernina Pass is so good, it's worth riding at least four times! 😅

Next stop was St Moritz for juice, and a soft drink. As before they day was really warming up so plenty of hydration breaks made sense.

(Aside: it's now 7:25am on Saturday morning... I've fed him tea and a Twix, and he's snoring again. Reminds me of a Tyrannosaurus Rex sniffing an SUV in Jurassic Park 😅)

Nice hotel balcony:

Eventually, despite our best efforts, we made it to Chiavenna and stopped for a coffee. Parked in beside some French bikes and found a place in the shade to cool down. Oh, I also purchased another memory card - 50 quid for 128Gb - he must have seen me coming!1000106621.jpg
