20mph Speed Limit & Avg. Speed Cameras on Upper / Lower Thames Street, London

20mph??

That's the dual carriageway that runsd under LIverpool st station isn't it?

20? bunch of arse.

Yes (but Cannon St - not Liverpool St. ;) )

Recently saw a bike with French plates do about 20-25mph for about 100 yds up there....... on the pavement!!! Undertook a pedestrian who nearly jumped into the road in fright.

Wonder will the cameras cure that?

Fekk....

That's one of the main routes E/W from the City Docklands or the east end.....I used to ride through there ten times a day when I was couriering....

There's also no way off it unless you nip across the pavement to one of the bolllarded off roads....BTDT too ;)

Those new average speed cams are fekkin evil things.......and they're going to be all over the place very very soon

We only have fixed speed ones - and not that many either.
more police cars though - who will stop you for fast filtering, but not stationary traffic filtering.

It'll soon get to the point where you'd be better off running without plates.

I met a guy on a CBR600RR at the Ace Cafe who turned up without plates. I asked him what the score was and he explained that he'd been doing it for the last 6months and had only been pulled once. He then got £30 fine, non-endorsable.:)

Bad News: The cameras were there Monday Morning
Good News: They appear to be front facing :D and the limit is the usual 30 - not 20.

I thought it was 20mph while the road works are in place ?

Went past there this afternoon – there is a 20mph sign but as other people have already mentioned the cameras are front facing. Does this mean bikers will get away with it??

not if they write your number down. Just hope they ehere busy with the cages.

who'll be the first to try kiddies?

There are specs on tower bridge, 20 limit been there for some time, my road angel picked them up so i had a gander and right it was too, not a problem in the day mind crawling across, but out of business hours they must be racking it in

Upper Thames St.

There are 2 sets of cameras on each side of the road. All forward facing.

There is also a LED board which tells you your speed, great fun I feel a competition coming on here.

Hmmmm If there is a person "in the loop" then they may be able to get your plate from the camera in the other lane (depending on the field of view).
If not then it appears that we may safely blast through at 22mph (avg) without fear.

A friend of mine just got done March '05 30mph in a 20mph at Upper/Lower Thames street.
Front facing on his car though...

mind your eye!

4,000-a-day City speed trap
By David Williams, Evening Standard
14 March 2005
A dual carriageway in the City has been unveiled as the country's most lucrative speed trap - making almost £4,000 a day in fines.

City of London Police figures revealed that in three weeks, the yellow cameras on Lower Thames Street accumulated £84,000.

An average of 70 drivers a day are being caught, giving the potential to collect almost £1.5 million this year alone.

The Specs system, the only one of its kind in London, measures a car's average speed through a designated stretch. It is designed to outwit those drivers who brake as they approach cameras then accelerate away

Blah

Lot's of blah on London Tonight regarding these cameras, seems they are on regardless of whether the roadworks are in operation. Also they are mounted above the traffic, not to the side.

Estimated annual take is £1.5m

I really hope they are forward facing only as I went through there on Sunday and could do without 3 more points !

A fool and his money
