For anyone who is interested...
I set off a bit late on the Monday morning, but still managed to get as far as a wild camp about 30mins west of Spean Bridge at about 4:30pm... After setting up camp I checked the bike over and was quite surprised that my front tyre was worse for ware than I had expected! I decided that it simply would not last the trip with some 1000 miles still to go! I called a tyre shop who said yes we have one in stock... I get there the following day and discover that they had made a mistake and there was no tyre! Calling everyone was fruitless and I was forced to buy a pair of tyres from the BMW garage in East Kilbride! So 600 miles later and 2 days I was back where I had started! I eventually get my new tyre fitted and it is 5pm Wednesday evening...should I stay or should I go... I went... and arrived at Great Glen Hostel at 8pm 'ish... Not bad going me thinks... For my sins, that set the precedence for the remainder of the trip. It felt like I was riding at "race pace" for the entire route. From Great Glen Hostel I rode to The Kyles of Tounge Hostel via the most demanding paved roads I have ridden to date. I stopped once in Lochcarron for food and again at Durness Beach... arriving at about 4:30pm at Tounge. That has got to be the toughest days riding I have ever done. I was pretty much on the pegs the whole time :-) Day 3 saw me ride to Dunnet Head then follow the coast to Inverness. Then pondering wether I should seek out another overnight venue, decided that I would press on and complete the route! What a magic trip... Next time I will take a buddy, take more time and maybe see a bit more lol... There are some absolutely amazing roads and stunning scenery in the far north. The best bit though is that there is next to no traffic... At one point I had ridden for 40 odd mins without seeing any oncoming traffic! Weather... cant say I noticed too much. Yes there was rain, but I have good gear! Did it impact on my trip? Not really, but dont get me wrong I would have preferred to do it in baking sunshine ;-) Much of the days were dry or showery, and there was plenty of dry tarmac... Happy Days

Sorry we never met up but had funeral on thu , but went a blast dunoon-tighnabruaich-tarbet-oban-durness- johnogroats-inverness back to motherwell ,sat and sun good weather amazing roads defo do it again ,let me know maybe tie up next time

HOSTELS

Sounds like you had a good time:beerjug:
Can you give some more information on the hostels ie. do they supply everything you need or what should you pack, prices, how early you need to book etc, any info much appreciated.
Thanks

These were independent hostels and yes everything is provided in trms of bedding. Some even offer ready meals that just need microwaved. In my opinion it is perfect, and by far a better option to camping in the rain lol... There is a website http://www.hostel-scotland.co.uk
Enjoy life before its too late dudes ;-)
