Sorry to bring this one up again, but whilst trying to source 20w-50w oil on Tuesday for an oil change in my 46000m 1150, the only stuff I could find was halfords own brand nasty oil (for classic cars!!!). I tried the BM dealers and they had none (said they put in 10w-40w if they run out of 20w-50w!!!!) and all the bike shops sell is 10w-40w. I gave up in the end and put GTX 10w-40w in. It runs lovely and is nice and quiet. Having read numerous oil debates on this site I am now worried that I've done the wrong thing.

What should I do? :nenau

just check the API rating on the side of the can. i'm sure you'll find halfrauds oil is fine by BMW specs (handily printed out in the manual) if rather overpriced.

Here goes for an oil thread stir. Look in the handbook, 10-40 is OK UP to 20c. On the way home it was 31c. I'm using 15-50.

I've use Morris' 15-50 semisythetic for years - great stuff, but I've used my last bottle. Any one know where I can get some more - I am in cheshire.

If you go to L.A.C in Congleton they stock Comma oil 20/50 £8 a gallon :thumb

i've been running my gs on asda's 20-50 (93p a litre) for the past month, and i seem to be using less oil than when i used catrol, probally get a slating from other riders but i can do a complete oil change for less than £3. (4.5l £2.74).

Get down to your local Harley Davidson dealer, they sell their own brand 20/50 for about £15 a gallon (mineral), they also do a synthetic 20/50 but I'm not sure of the price. These harley oils should be well up to the job.
If there is no Harley main agent near you look for an independent Harley agent, they usually sell American branded 20/50 oils such as 'Rev Tech', this is quite a high spec oil and should also be more than adequete for any BMW flat twin engine.

BMW are selling 20/50 oil. SBW have some on the shelves. It's called 'high power' and even has a pic of an oilhead engine on the front. It's BMW branded.

Duckhams Q 20W/50 from any motor factors. :thumb

good call, and it means you don't have to mix with all those :ymca bikers at the harley dealership :thumb

I've just stopped using Duckhams 20/50 in my Guzzi and changed to Comma SynerG. Will it blow up?

duckhams has gone up at my local place: £11.99

bought 4 & got them down to £10.49 but it was £7.99 the other week FFS :(

Just bought some Rock Guardian semi synthetic 20/50. Its not a specific motorcycle oil, just an engine oil, ie: no need for all these fancy wet clutch and high shear gearbox additives :rob
