21 Dales Run , Guest appearance Mr J.Boxer

Having downloaded a garmin file for 21 Yorkshire Dales sometime at least a year ago off UKGSer, finally dusted it off and Hatched a plot to ave` a go.

Decided on September 21st or 28th and to just book somewhere as you do when weather looks ok. Having done one of JBoxer rideouts which was grand , decided to return the favour and ask him along .
The plan, ride up Saturday, earliest 4.30pm pickup 21 dales route in Ripon ride up to the overnight stop . Wine ,Dine ,Sleep, complete the route on the am. Sounded like a plan.

As September started the weather took a turn for the worst , wet and cold ,,,bug+er.

Monday 16th September weather looks good for weekend ,so I starts googling for a couple of rooms or 1 for the 3 of us, as near to our route as possible. Well apparently, The Dales is full. No places to be had for 21st , no camping cos we want to be lightweight for this run.
Think laterally big boy ,,,, ahhhhh that’s it YHA. Yes we have a room at Grinton Lodge Near Reeth for 3 en-suite £54.00 or £18.00 each. Its licensed , does food up to 8pm and breakfast from 7.30am. 3 courses for £11.95 and very big breakfast for £4.95. Excellent value.

JohnnyBoxer is riding up to meet us for 9am on the Sunday.

We are all set roll on Saturday.

Saturday 21st September.

Bunged stuff in a carrier after finishing work , (forgets shoes and clean shirt – pre-senile dementia , so Julie reckons). We trudge through football traffic, cooking in our just in case of bad weather gear. Arrive at Brother in laws for the off at 5.40pm . We ride up as the sun slowly sets as we approach Ripon. Deciding to fuel up again so we are ready to roll in the morning. We have a grand run up to Leyburn hang a left to go up a back road that deviates from route, road looks good on the map and takes in another 2 Dales called ,Whipperdale and Apedale . Tomorrrow its;

Arkengarthdale
Barbondale
Birkdale
Bishopdale
Chapel-le-Dale
Clapdale
Coverdale
Deepdale
Dentdale
Garsdale
Kingsdale
Langstrothdale
Littondale
Malhamdale

Don’t Ask???? John Cleese Moment.

Arriving after a cracking run .

Well blow me socks off not the YHA I remember, better than a lot of B an Bs ,very friendly staff. Brilliant. Food aint bad either. Result.

View from our Window

Eat well , drank well , slept well on comfy beds.

Johnny Boxer arrived promptly and we were soon off, after many miles , we needed to stop for a loo break.

One of me favourite photos Julie and her brother David Grinning from ear to ear.

another,

Only a part picture of JB backing away from the nutter wi pants on his head.

After a chat with Johnny we diverted to one of the JB list of good tearooms. We discussed the route and Tea rooms in general. With JBs local knowledge , the route we are following can be added to. So much scope up here, lovely part of the country.
We press on slowly,,,,ha ha taking in the scenery and the jumps oooooo yea ha.

Another little stop at a JB café.

Its called ??

After lunch Julie politely enquires how many more miles,,,, mmmmmmmmmmmmm,, “Not Far Dear”. She is loving it though.

Johnny going off at next turn missing Malham Cove so we say our goodbyes and we are off.

Last 3 pics

Under every Rainbow theres Pots of Gold.

One of the best trips in ages at all levels, really good to have JB along , kept me on me toes, flying in close formation briskly, excellent fun .

All the bikes performed well, old and new. The weather behaved.

Perfik.

Link to a few more photos of various qualities from the 21 Dales Trip, bit of low light on some.

Thanks for sharing....:thumb

Nice little RR..

wow, YHA has changed since last time I tried them, no motor vehicles allowed, damp grungy bedding, no food you hadnt brought yourself...wierd people running (!) the hostels....what is the world coming to!

good report though....:thumb2

Cheers for a good day, Andrew.................along with the lovely Julie and BIL, David

A good route, although the route originator (not you) has missed a few Dales out:augie

Nice ride and fun to get airborne a few times:eek:

After Stainforth, I cut across to Littondale, with some great views of the little seen 'rear' of Pen y Gent - the sun was shining on that side of the Peak

Halton Gill was superb !

A brief stop in Kettlewell, then a run over Coverdale and Colsterdale back to Middleham and home

Really enjoyed and hope you like my recommended Tea Rooms for morning coffee and lunch

Perhaps we should do a 'JB Tea Room trail':D

Thanks to all who have posted:thumby:

JB, julie read your reply and as a cake hunter sounds like a top trip/run.

Your mission should you choose to accept it is to link even more Dales into a route. Including some top cafe, tea rooms.:D

The Cake run would be Julie's favourite.
