I've been experimenting with the dark side...

I have been looking around for 250-ish green-laner/off-roader for playing around locally. I have been offered a 2008 250 EXC-F, 768 miles/28 hours - for little over £4k.

The plastics look a bit scoured, the rest of the bike does however, look almost new. At £5.4k on the road this seems a bit of a bargain to me - any thoughts ?

It's a cracking bike. I sold my 07 for £4800 with 25hrs on it last year but it was in mint condition including handguards, sump guards etc.

Would describe it as a mountain bike with power across the range rather than just the top end. It does like to rev and brings a serious grin factor. It replaced an HP2 and was more fun offroad.

Price wise I think I was lucky having sold it via the UK KTM site. Just looking through eBay there are lots of examples closer to the £4k mark. They aren't making any more greenlanes so I'd be inclined to drive a hard bargain.

Be very wary... The 250 excf is a revvy little twin cam and needs a new piston at 50hrs, or when it shows signs of smoking.

My mate rebuilt a 250 excf that had exploded, It cost the owner £1100 in parts alone. It showed signs of smoking and he ignored it.. a costly experience.

If you want a perfect green laner then the 450x is the bike imho.... revvy with decent power and traction, and a 2 year warranty !!

Oh and I have one for sale too

It doesn't seem to be any great deal.

Here's a 2008 250 EXC-F for £3995 - don't know about hours/mileage though.
