My third trip this year takes the mileage to 9000. Some stats and observations from this trip in sunshine and dry roads.

1. Average overall speed 41 mph
2. Overall 51 mpg.....most mileage in Mountains and avoiding French Police at speed limit
3. Max indicated speed 140 mph with a bit left to probably 145 mph.....no headwind or following wind. Bike stable.
4. 98 Ron petrol gave 10% improved mpg, used 98 ron for most fill ups
5. Seat good for 200 miles then a right pita.
6. Screen good but needs more width.
7. Heated grips crap....just too cool.

I was a critic of the close gear ratios but now think they are perfect for hooligan mountain and twisty roads. One blast down the Grimsel was ballistic as was a run on the B500 racetrack.......this is a very fast bike that happily revs to 9000 rpm and beyond but is happy to punch from the apex at much lower revs.....a number of other riders commented on the surprising acceleration.

Low balance and predictable steering all add to the fun.

I changed the rear pads to the latest spec. And coincidentally the font brake has improved significantly......I wonder if the brakes need abuse to develop their full potential?

This bike is growing on me. It is brilliant in the mountain twisties and will do the hooligan if you want it too. Great fun and comfy ergo with no buffeting.

Gear change is dragging and clutch is warped. BMW claim they have a fix which will be applied next week.....we shall see!

Interesting, the max I managed was 120 mph ( on the GPS ) , two up + luggage.Must say my old 1200RT beat that. Personally, I found 80/85 mph the best compromise for speed and economy and the noise from the exhaust is less intrusive:hide

Good info and assessment:thumby: It can indeed be a hooligan weapon on the right roads and is deceptively fast. The same speeds on a Ducati MS and KTM felt a lot faster. The only downside is that it's a little too efficient and easy to ride. It almost feels Japanese but it is a fine machine indeed.
