I posted this on Adventure Rider;
A few other 256MB cards that are not useable on the SPIII have now surfaced.
It appears that ALL the new 256MB cards will not work on a StreetPilot III.
If I was guessing then I would say the Garmin has changed chip suppliers without checking that they work.
Garmin has said that they never stated that a 256MB card will work on a SPIII (in spite of the 256MB card packaging saying 'Compatible with: StreetPilot III, GPSMAP 276C, GPSMAP 296') and that they will not modify the SPIII firmware to make them work.
The Australian distributor is in 'discussions' with Garmin
I suggest that you follow up with Garmin and perhaps remind them of their own packaging.
