I may swap the RAM bracket for the Garmin version, when it's available. I'm not so crazy about the quality of the RAM thingy.

But apart from that, I'm quite happy with this setup. High and visible, and low profile when removed...

Cheers,
Michel

power

Hi,

how have you wired the unit?

I have a spare car lead, if i cut off the cig plug can I connect direct to the battery??

Have you used a fuse?

cheers

Gerry

Yes you can Gerry.

For now, I have used the car cable. It's under the tank. I have opened up the speaker box and soldered two wires to the speaker, that come out and connect to my helmet speakers.

So now my tank "speaks" and so does my helmet. I'll use the proper cable when it's available, but patience is not my biggest virtue :D

This works fine, so it will also if you cut the speaker and the lighter plug off I'm sure.

Cheers,
Michel

Comment on RAM cradles;

The design quality of the RAM cradles varies across different models

With my GPS V I went with the RAM cradle with a small RAM base as I believe it is much better than the Garmin cradle

With my GPSmap 176 I dis-assembled the Garmin fixed marine mount that it comes with and used the Garmin cradle with a RAM 2 1/2 inch ball base.
The Garmin cradle appears to have a more positive lock than the RAM cradle.

I believe that others have used the Garmin cradle with their SPIII as well.

Does anyone have any idea when a power lead will be availale and has anyone got it working through an autocom yet ????

Bill

Hey that's a fine set-up MiGSel. I've also got a RAM mount as I've found it's currently impossible getting any other, even though they're displayed on the web.

There seems to be a real lack of accessories for 2610's in the UK and I haven't been able to get a hardwire power cable yet either. I've ended up placing my power lead inside my tankbag, so I have a talking tankbag :P

How is the 2610 in direct sun light to read? Please post pictures of it in direct sun light to show us.

I'll try to remember that, when we get some sun :D
Cheers,

How do you feel it looks in direct sun light though?

I think it will not be very much better than the SPIII.

But it never bothered me that badly with the SPIII. There's alway the voice guidance to keep you informed...

I hope I'll know for sure soon....

Bare wire cable

The bare wire cable is available in the U.S. now. Garmin StreetPilot 2610 Power/Audio Cable (010-10495-02), about $30.

Impossible Joe, it's not available yet.

They have been announcing it for months, but they don't have much to show for yet. Me thinks they have more than a few problems getting it sorted.

My money is on the Touratech handlebar mounted remote. They are also still working on it, but I'm sure they'll come up with a good GS solution.

Cheers,
Michel
