Has anyone else loaded the 3.40 GPSR software. I have and there seems to be different colours but not actually sure what has changed. Unfortunately once you download you cant go back and see what has changed. Doesn't mention anything in the blurb. Have a look Here

3.40

I think that you get more options for the tabs, ie you can now configure them so that all you see are then numbers / letters and no background. = more screen available to view the map on.

As to whether the "completely different" Nav 2 can make use of the Garmin updates?

Just downloaded onto NavII...seems to work fine......urban streets now green instead of black..... QM(?) red instead of black........green dots all over the place.....

Biggest improvement seems to be in autorouting configuration, with the ability to choose custom road preferences.....Major/Medium/Minor.... with a avoid-prefer 8 point slider.........and custom 'avoidance' options.....

Haven't used it on the move yet, so I don't know what else the update has done.......

Gazza:

I've been using 3.40 and its non-public predecessors (3.0, 3.03, 3.15, 3.20. 3.30, etc.) for the past few months.

There have been a HUGE number of changes and improvements made since the release of 2.95, which I think was the last public release. So many, in fact, that Garmin has re-written (note: re-written from scratch, not simply updated) the owner's manual for the SP 2610 and SP 2650.

I really recommend you go to the Garmin website, download the new manual (the Revision B manual, dated 04/04), and print the document - then spend a few hours reading it. You will discover a whole raft of features, tips, and tricks that you never knew about before. Heck, I have been participating in the testing and development of this software since 1.90, and I discovered a whole bunch of new tricks I didn't know about in the new manual release. I think Garmin must have hired a new (and much better) tech author to write the new manual.

By the way - the SP 2610 and 2650 software is now considered to be 'fully mature' at revision 3.40, so any future releases will most likely only address bug fixes, unless someone thinks up a major new feature to include. What I am trying to say is that it does make sense to print the whole new manual on paper and read it, because it is unlikely that there will be more 'tiny incremental tweaks' to the software - only transparent bug fixes, or major new features. If you take the PDF file to a local print shop (just burn it onto a CD), they should be able to print and bind it for you (in black and white) for less than ₤ 10. It will be the best ₤ 10 you have spent.

Here's the link to the manual: Garmin SP 2610 - 2650 User Manual, Revision B, 04/04. Note that although it says "SP 2650 Manual", the two GPSR's share the same manual.

Pan, thanks for the info I have the manual downloaded and intend to read it later.

Thanks.....

.....for the link Pan......very useful indeed......

Question for those who have the BMW Nav II: Did you get just two manuals included, the Nav II Quick Start guide & the MapSource Guide..........?

I remember with the Nav I the full user manual was on the 'manuals' disc included in the package.......am I missing something with my Nav II or do we have to rely on the Garmin equivalent........?

Cheers

As you say just got the two manuals, the full Nav 2 user manual is on one of the discs. Been playing with the Nav 2 for a while now and have to say it is very impressive. The touch screen seems capable of virtually every function of the unit. Why did they provide the remote control for the 2610 version? I have probably missed something here but what can you do with the remote that you can't do with the touch screen.

If you accept the terms & proceed to the next page, you should see a complete change history
