Gazza:
I've been using 3.40 and its non-public predecessors (3.0, 3.03, 3.15, 3.20. 3.30, etc.) for the past few months.
There have been a
HUGE number of changes and improvements made since the release of 2.95, which I think was the last public release. So many, in fact, that Garmin has re-written (note:
re-written from scratch, not simply updated) the owner's manual for the SP 2610 and SP 2650.
I really recommend you go to the Garmin website, download the new manual (the Revision B manual, dated 04/04), and print the document - then spend a few hours reading it. You will discover a whole raft of features, tips, and tricks that you never knew about before. Heck, I have been participating in the testing and development of this software since 1.90, and I discovered a whole bunch of new tricks I didn't know about in the new manual release. I think Garmin must have hired a new (and much better) tech author to write the new manual.
By the way - the SP 2610 and 2650 software is now considered to be 'fully mature' at revision 3.40, so any future releases will most likely only address bug fixes, unless someone thinks up a major new feature to include. What I am trying to say is that it does make sense to print the whole new manual on paper and read it, because it is unlikely that there will be more 'tiny incremental tweaks' to the software - only transparent bug fixes, or major new features. If you take the PDF file to a local print shop (just burn it onto a CD), they should be able to print and bind it for you (in black and white) for less than ₤ 10. It will be the best ₤ 10 you have spent.
Here's the link to the manual:
Garmin SP 2610 - 2650 User Manual, Revision B, 04/04. Note that although it says "SP 2650 Manual", the two GPSR's share the same manual.
