Many of you like the 'heads up' when something is a foot.

2610 GPS and bike bundle
The 2610 and 2610 bike bundle is coming to its end and only a few 'new' white box units units remain. Anyone still thinking about getting one will be dissapointed by the weekend.

Links remain open are;

Quest 1 GPS and bike bundle
The same has now been done to the Quest 1, so whether its gps on its own, or Quest with RAM mount and GA15 cradle or Quest with RAM mount,GA15 cradle + QPAC01 so there is an offer waiting to be had for someone. There is limited stock availability.

Thanks for the heads-up RAM-man. Do you know if these are new or re-furbed?
Doesn't seem to mention it on the website..

Any discount on just the bike mount kit??? :bow

Me already has a quest but no mounting stuff yet :)

Which would be the better of the two units ie features, user friendliness, robustness ..idiot proof??

Cheers

I have owned both. I had a Quest first and the only frustrating thing was the limited memory, as if one used City Navigator 8 the map "tiles" are nearly four times as large as those in City Select 6 that came with the unit. This means that if you went on a very long tour of the continent there is a good possibility that you wouldn't be able to fit all the maps you want on to the unit. I did just manage to fit the maps for my Garmisch trip last year onto the unit. I got a 2610 as I liked the concept of the memory card and have purchased a 2 Gig card which takes the whole of Europe.

However I do not like the screen graphics on the 2610 as much as those on the Quest. This is because despite having a significantly larger screen the screen resolution is the same 320 x 240. The same number of pixels spread over a larger area makes all the graphics look cruder. Further the daytime background colour is a grizzly sort of yellow, which I have to tolerate as it is not possible to alter this. On the Quest I think it was possible to alter the screen colours to taste.

I did not have any problem with the smaller screen on the Quest either on the RAM mount fitted behind the screen on my 1200GS, or on the dashboard of the car.

Would I swap back, I probably wouldn't but it only be because of the non expandable memory on the Quest.

Rgds

Frustrating that they increased the tile size. You can apparently use Metroguide Europe and make it routable by using MetroWizz. MG Europe has similar tile sizes to City Select so you can do extended European tours. However, there are a few downsides; I think it will just regard roundabouts as junctions and has cruder road designations which means it will probably make not so intelligent routing decisions as City Nav.
