Hi,

I have recently purchased a Garmin 2610 and mounted to my GS1200 using the Garmin cradle and the BMW handlebar bracket.

Whilst riding in bright sunlight I seem to get random page/screen changes happening!

It seems to happen when the Sun is behind me shining diectly at the 2610, could the sunlight be providing spurious infrared signals to the 2610 causing random page changes?

Has anybody else seen this?

Ian

Hi Ian,

I've also experienced this problem with my 2610 and haven't managed to find a reason or indeed a cure for it yet. My bike is a Yamaha XJ900S Diversion, not as though that really matters.

I think I read somewhere that spurious behaviour may occur at the point that the track log gets full and it starts to roll the track log buffer memory. It might be worth emptying the track log prior to a ride out to see if this makes any difference.

That's my uneducated shot at it anyway...

Paul.

I currently have the track log disabled so I don't think this can be the problem. I guess the best thing to try is to stick some tape over the infrared receiver on the 2610.

I only seem to have this problem on the bike, never in the car. (although I haven't used it much in the car yet!)

Thanks

Ian

I'd agree its the sun's infrared radiation freaking out the sensor. I just put some insulation tape over the little window and it's not happened since. I can't really imagine using the remote anyway (in fact, I've never used it!) so no worries.

I've had the same experience, and did the same as Munchyboy - little square of gaffer tape over the infa red wondow, and it stopped. Never used, or intend to use the remote, so not a problem for me.

I also had this problem, spoke with Garmin and it is a known problem / fault. Sent the unit back and they replaced the sensor FOC.
