2610 unlock code/upgrade

I have a 2610 with appropriate unlock code and was given a V9 disk>

Can I just bang it in the computer and the in the 2610?

The v9 update disk will need it's own unlock code, which you'll have to pay for

Unless you purchased the unit new on or after 1st Sept 2006, it used to be the registration date rather than date of purchase but they've wised up to that one, some users have been lucky though.

Not stirring it up but how would Garmin (or anyone for that matter) know when you bought it? Unless they see a receipt or your credit card details etc etc the unit could be in a warehouse for all they know.

Apparently, in some but not all instances, of those requesting free upgrades to v9 a request has been made for proof of purchase.
