2610 upgrade problem...

hi guy's
got my upgrade v7 and am trying to put the map's(uk)on the unit,mapsource recognises the unit when i touch the send box i get the message that there is an error communicating with your device etc but the device is turned on any ideas?

Have you got the latest USB drivers loaded.

Alternatively, unplug the USB cable, retstart PC, and re plug USB to allow PC to reset the link.

This could be a problem if you have a USB expansion box.

I have had similar problems.

My guess is that your problem is related to your computer configuration, not to your GPSR or your MapSource CD.

Perhaps check and see if you can upload and download map segments from your existing cartography (CN Europe version 6, or whatever) without difficulty. If you have problems doing that, then for sure, it is a computer problem, not a GPSR problem.

last week i changed the maps back from europe to uk after a tripand it was ok that was on v6,today it would not load either but it would upload the french-italy stuff from the trip???...loz

Loz:

Try the following:

1) Unplug EVERYTHING from your computer. That means your internet connection, your printer, everything except the mouse and the keyboard - and the GPSR, of course. Make sure the GPSR is plugged directly into the computer, and there is no extension cord on the USB cable that connects the GPSR to the computer.

2) Restart the computer.

3) Kill off as many of the TSR (terminate and stay resident) programs as you can. These are the little things you see in the lower right corner of the system tray. Kill off your virus checker as well - if you are not connected to the internet, it's darn unlikely you are going to catch a virus from your GPSR.

4) After you have killed all that crap off, try doing the map transfer.
