As a computer dummy would it be worth my while getting the 2620 with the fitted microdrive of Europe installed and then fitting the bike with a top of the range Touratech mount(shock absorbers and all that) The whole rigmarole of locking unlocking loading and uploading material from PC to GPS seems to me to be a recipe for having the 2610 sitting in the back of my wardrobe while im grizzling about my lack of computer nous and a £900 hole in my bank account

It's not really a good option as the microdrive doesn't like much vibration. If you don't want to be faffing with repeatedly loading and unlocking maps, buy a 2610 with a 2Gb CF card (not microdrive) and unlock and load all the European maps once - then you'll not have to bother again.

The question of "2610 vs 2620" has been discussed at great length on another thread here in this forum. This discussion took place within the last month. Have a look for it.

The bottom line is this: Don't get a 2620 if you are computer-savvy! The 2620 is designed to be an "idiot-proof" GPSR for people who either don't own a computer, or don't know how to load map segments into the GPSR from the computer.

Above and beyond that, there is the concern that the built-in internal hard drive is probably not the best choice for motorcycle use, especially for GS (Gelande /Strasse) motorcycles. By the way, the 2620 no longer ships with a removable CF card microdrive, but a built-in drive - the 2620 has no door on the side anymore.
