I went into ICE(Leicester) today and they was telling me that the 2620 is perfectly ok on a bike because GARMIN told them so in a phone call which they made to them yesterday(because i asked them).
GARMIN also reports that no 2620 has been returned to them due to damaging the hard drive from being mounted to a motorcycle.

Also i have a 2620 which has done 300+miles on my bike and it hasn't done any harm.........yet!!

I think I'd be looking for an Email from Garmin, not an entirely deniable reassurance from somebody whose business is selling GPSes.

Mike:)

The microdrive is not nessecarily damaged.
It does vibrate to the point where it will retract the heads and refuse to read.

At least half a dozen US riders have exchanged their SP2620 for SP2610 with no questions asked by Garmin - ie this is a known problem.

iirc Mark Dilloway brought one on the 2004 tosser tour and it didnt last the first day on the bike .:D

sure Greg will know more about it

I had a 2620. Normally it wasn't a problem but if you pulled away in the wrong gear (3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th!!) with the beast wobbling like crazy as it torqued you out of trouble or cruised at above 90 mph when the vibration was significant, the error message appears on screen. As your trip continues the error messages become more frequent until the unit eventually gives up and doesn't boot.

I took mine to Garmin UK for a new disk drive which they fixed there and then. It failed again and I got a refund.

I now have a 2610. No problems.

Moral: don't use a 2620 on an 1150 GSA
