2GB CF cards on 7 day shop

sorry if i sound thick but do i need a card reader?

can i not load the card into the GPS and program it? never had a GPS before so not up to spped yet.

As cookie so rightly says, you can just download the maps straight to the card in the GPS. If you're going to download the whole of CN8 it will take about an hour and a half.

However, it's much much faster with a card reader.

4.0GB Compact Flash in a Garmin 2610

just a reminder folks that your new cf cards will need re-formatting before use in your garmin.

When they arrive they are Fat32 format which is fine for camera use ect but for the garmin they must be Fat format. To do this is easy....

Insert card in reader on your pc, open my computer, select card drive (might show as :E or :F), right click and choose format, select Fat from the little drop down menu by clicking on down arrow, select quick format and press OK.

Hope this helps, Bob

I just purchased a SanDisk 4.0GB Compact Flash card (£28.88 delivered) from XLShop.com
I would like to put all my City Navigator Europe v9 maps on the one card. I can't get them all to fit on the 2.0GB.

Using my cardreader I'm trying to format the card to FAT only. The problem is the "file system" format type shown in the dropdown box only shows FAT32
Previously I put in my old 2.0GB card and it gives me the option of FAT32 or FAT.

Has anyone managed to get a 4.0GB CF card to work in a 2610?

I'm not a techie but I think that FAT partitions have a 2GB limit?
