I'm toying with the idea of getting myself a second bike to run alongside the HP2.
Will be used mainly (95%) on road (motorways/A roads commuting) - leaving the HP for the dirty stuff. Will do about 10 -15,000 miles a year.

I can't decide between a Triumph Scrambler (love the looks) or Yam Tenere.
My hearts saying Trumpet, but heads leaning towards the Yam.
I've ridden neither, but I rarely find test rides give useful indications of long term ownership.

What do reckon?

Any reliability issues with either?

Or shall I just flip a coin?

old tenere - mines a 1989 with 60,000 on the clock. Never looked after by the previous owner but being rebuilt to take me to tanzania next year. So i have faith in it.

Old ones (like mine) have gearbox issues and the carbs wear out, but easily fixed. you can pick em up for £400 upwards. Even for a clean one!

Think hard about what you really want to do with it.

And be honest with yourself.

I love my Scrambler to bits but I wouldn`t off road it for anything more than a forest track or gravel trail (even then only if it was dry).
It`s superb on the road...excellent handling and plenty of real world performance.
Good two up,as well.

I`ve not ridden the new Tenere but I have owned four XT6000`s over the years.
I took one to the South of France in a 3,500 ten day bike holiday.
Never again.
I couldn`t even stand without discomfort.
On big open roads it felt like I was doing the work instead of the engine.
Yet those bikes are superb off road.

If you really love how the Scram looks and really don`t intend offroading, then you`ll be chuffed with it.
If you do intend getting down and dirty more often than not,it won`t be the best choice.

A bit of vice versa for the Yam.

You buy washing machines, lawnmowers and toasters with your head. Motorcycles are for the heart so you've already answered it mate:thumb

Screen, TKC's, soft luggage mounted on frames ... I really like this bike.
Just prior to buying the R80 I got a great price on a new blue and white one like this but with a black engine, also got a price for some black rims.

Same engine (except FI the newer ones have) but a slightly different chassis, I have the 2010 Bonneville and its a sweet bike. I actually prefer it to my old KTM990 SM and the engine is a peach I reckon. One thing I would say is I am a dwarf and the Bonneville feels quite compact for me, I know the scrambler is a little longer in the leg but if your tall sit on one for while to check your not going to cramp up.
