2nd hand tyres

If you bought a bike that had only covered 120 miles in the last six years would you even give the tyres a consideration ???

Tyre manufacturers say 5 years max, the problem with any used tyre is there is no provenance.

That's what I thought after checking the 6 year old tyres whch had only covered around 1000 miles - until suffered a blow out on the way to the MOT and ending up with a broke femur from the resulting accident...

Ohh dear, best change the tyres on my K series, they're from 2000 :D

I daren't think about how old my car tyres are.

I recently replaced a pair of tourances from my 2002 1150GSA which were the original tyres. After 19,000Km, they had hardly worn (something to do with the road surfaces in Turkey and lack of aggressive use I think), but within a month of regular use, the front started cracking pretty badly and there was very little stickiness left in either. I'd also lose a couple of PSI per day.

My new TKCs had considerably more grip even before they were scrubbed in.

Don't go there !

On a car, a blow out is scary but v likely controllable. On a bike, different matter.

Would you really risk your life like that to save not much more than £100 ????
