I am working on a new product and I wanted to see if there is any interest. It will be a semi transparant 3 ltr bottle which will be very strong and puncture proof. You can park a car wheel on it with no problems. The cap will be wide enoug for a petrol pump and attached to the bottle. It will be specified for fuel and oil. The bottle will come with a stainless bracket that will allow it to be locked onto the bike and the cap will also be locked on with the same bracket. So it can not be removed or opened. To lock it will be a paddlock. Dim w 210, h 240, d 70 plus 40 for cap.
Feedback I would specificaly like is 3ltr or 2?
Stainless bracket or aluminim.
Supplied with mounting bolts and rivets.

What would stop it from sliding out sideways?

Looks good, potentially.....2 litres would be adequate IMO, and a better size/weight.
(don't need more oil that that, and if someone needs more than 2 litres fuel, they fekked up so badly that they deserve the walk :D)

It looks like the bracket sits in a groove in the bottle.

I'd say aluminium bracket because it's lighter, and 3 litres - you can always put two in if you like, but you can't get three into a two litre bottle!

Definitely liking the single strap to lock the can on, and the cap closed.

Aluminium wouldn't do. Flex it a bit and it breaks. All you'd need is a pair of pliers and you could have the lock off in secconds. Waste of time putting the padlock on. It will need to be made of some sort of steel.

Looking at the bracket as it is, one good kick would dislodge the bottle from the frame. I suspect though that the extra metal you can see just behind the bottle is supposed to wrap around the upright part to prevent this??

You'd also need to think about the impact the barcket will have on the full plastic bottle. There's quite a lot of weight in 3 liters of liquid. Used over rough terrain the bracket could well ware through the plastic leaving a nice little trail behind the bike.

Other things to think about are: Where are you thinking of mounting this bottle? Will it fit on the back of a pannier, or on top of a topcase? Can the hinges of a topcase sustain the extra weight? Would anyone want to have it placed here? Are you planning to fix it to the outer side of a pannier? Will that just make the bike too wide? Will potential buyers want their bike this wide? etc etc

Val.

Any chance of knocking up a tomato ketchup and mayo dispenser holder, for my bike in a convenient double holder that I can bolt to any pannier or topbox

That would be really useful for summer BBQ's

good stuff

This is a prototype and the bracket will fit in a grove that runs around the bottle. This will prevent it being pulled out sideways and will hold it off the pannier. The plastic will be 3/4 mm thick and there will be no movement between the bracket and bottle so should not wear through.
The rear is like the front but with holes drilled for mounting on the bottle. The bottle will have recesses in for the bolt heads ect.
Good point about the aluminium bracket not being as strong around the lock. The bracket will be 3mm thick which is thicker than the pannier ? the locks would be much nicer but they will increase the price by at least the cost of 2 locks so around 8-10 euro ? ( they are not made in Serbia so they will be imported.)
It will be a little more than the touratech one I thin.k However it is a different product with locking bottle and cap and virtually bomb proof ?

Good point about the 2 ltr in a 3 ltr bottle !!! manufacturing price is virtually identical as well.

and ive been told by a lady friend that hard wood is better than soft wood ?

bugger I had not thought of that putting a picture of a finished one. Then once I have finished it I can then ask for peoples opinions and then ignore any suggestions ? come on !!!!!!
I am about to confirm final design and then tools will be made to that final design. Tmrw I will confirm the prices for the integral locks and if a suitable ali bracket is possible.

So should it come with bolts and rivets and or a padlock ? and a cardboard box or a plastic bag ?

Personally a padlock is fine - easy enough to wrap it in tape / stick some neoprene on the bracket.

One final comment on the design: The 'joint' between the base and the upright looks pretty easy to jemmy open...

The material will be 3 mm stainless steel so to prise tha bottom bracket off will be harder than opening the pannier and taking the pannier with the bottle on. Has any one got an idea for a name?

So Im going to go for the 3 ltr not the 2 ltr version ?

what about a 3ltr storage box the same size that fits in the same bracket ?
