I took the plunge and bought a 1200gs in May off this site and can honestly say that its the best thing I've done in a long long time. Initially I was put off by the numerous posts of questionable reliability and was set on getting a 1150gsa but when a post came up of a fully loaded '04 1200gs with wilbers upgrades, sat nav, full vario pannier set etc, etc I couldn't resist. Went around to see the bike and found out that it has not suffered from any of the reliability issues frequently moaned about. The only 'faults' were corrosion on the rims and the timing chain cover - big deal! Of course there are some with issues but this shouldn't overshadow the fact that there are many good one's out there as well.
So after 3 months of getting to know the bike it just gets better and better. I commute out of London to Maidenhead so that has been the bikes main use so far. Effortless riding.... the handling is confidence inspiring and there's so much power on tap moving past anything is a breeze. So far no problems with the stock seat but a long trip might show up its limitations.
I've added some mods- the best one being the the Givi Airflow screen with winglets from NN. I can ride visor up at any speed and no buffeting at all. Just upgraded to clear led indicators and rear light, as well as brighter bulbs for the headlights. Spots to be added soon.
I believe that the bike has had a black paint job (can anyone verify?) as I have never come across one with a similar look.
So next is to take the bike on a tour -down to Cornwall where I'm from and then possibly Norway or the Scottish Highlands.
It's my first bike in 10 years and the dream has come true!
