The new WC has been on sale for 3 months and some mileages are getting up to the 6k mark

Overwhelmed or.........Underwhelmed?

Glad you got ride of your old oilcooled TwinCam?

Is it living up to expectations?

Let's have some owner's feedback:D

Some have sold them on already too?

It would appear not all is rosy though, with the gearbox and clutch mechanisms starting to throw up a few gremlins

..and the specific Vario panneirs not fitting too well, in some instances

Overall though......................more importantly how is it for you, now the miles are racking up:nenau

Mine has just been run in and so I'm still finding my way around it. As it turned out, I had a long trip to Wales on the weekend I collected it and so broke it in over those few days.

Impressions so far:
Like the ride position - despite the short arse seat, I am still sat quite high up and in a more upright position, making it more comfortable that my old CB for long journeys.
Seat is quite comfy but I used my airhawk for the 700 mile weekend.
Bars are a stretch for my short arms, but I've just adjusted them so they shouldn't be such a stretch now.
Love the ESA - being able to adjust the ride on the fly is brilliant.

Coming from a lower, sportier bike with a lot of feedback from the suspension and tyres, I am still trying to learn to trust the bike in corners as I find it hard to feel what is going on...really struggling with the vagueness from the front end.

The screen isnt as protective as I first thought - it could do with being a couple of inches taller and an extra inch either side...still its better than my naked ;)

Gearbox - 2 into N is better after the 1st service, but still not perfect.

So, overall I don't regret my decision to change to a GS LC, but I will be happier once I get the feel for and learn to trust how much grip\lean angle the bike is capable of.

Personally, after having a 2008gsa and a 2010gsa(30years) the quality is a bit lower for my expectations. Just little things, but annoying to handle. Already replaced: clutch, rubber boot, front screen, Clutch leakage (reservoir). All replacement parts are usually in backorder and never available immediately.

Still thinking if a made the right choice... Ktm adv still in mind.
Overall, satisfied.

I don't get emotionally attached to my bikes,or defend them just because I've spent over 14k on one  so here's my honest opinion.

I loved my twin cam,it was an homogenisation of several previous bikes that I'd bought bits for and was able to transfer onto my TC i.e. Seats, screen, luggage, spot lights etc,However I always felt it was at times just slightly lacking a bit of get up and go when needed.

For no other reason than to have a go I tested the new WC on it's release.
I didn't test it with the intention of swapping because despite what I had read I didn't believe it was going to be that much better than my TC.

On the initial test ride,I had two,The bike did impress, it was agile nimble and certainly had a swifter turn of pace than the TC,but lets be under no illusions the 1200wc is nippy but it's not a fast bike.

The first test impressed me enough to take it out again but this time with a much more objective head on than the first time, with two questions in mind.

1..Does this bike suit my needs.
2..Would I like to own this bike.

The answer to both was yes,so the deal was done.

I picked the bike up on 17th of May and have now covered 2500mls which has included a Jaunt to Normandy and a trip to Paris taking in the Arc de Triomph and the Paris periferique.

Motorways.. the bike is fine, stable and comfortable overtakes are done with a flick of the wrist and cruising at anything upto 100mph is a doddle.

However Joanne was not so comfortable on the back, stating that anything constant above 75mph caused her uncomfortable buffeting.

A roads.. It's a dream, you can ride and steer it on the throttle although it doesn't like irregular road surfaces it makes it buck and skip and often feels as though the tyres are over inflated,it never feels dangerous or out of control but it will track some irregularities and positively hates wet cats eyes I'm hoping this is the tyres.

B roads..Feels much lighter than the TC steers very positively and the brakes are superb again I'm not keen of the tyres on these roads much preferring the original Tourance.

Modes...Personally I love them, they took a while to recognise how to get the best from them but once you've sussed it It's great.
I would think I spent around 60% of the time in Rain mode.

Suspension... Again the active ESA is for me a revelation and once the settings become second nature it's easy.

I've never ridden a bike from Rosedale to Egton bridge that handles like this.

Engine...Lovely,smooth,pokey and responsive,it's not to keen once below 1800 rpm but I've soon got used to it.

Handling..Difficult to fault very direct no having to fight with the bike unless you getting near to silly speeds and at times it really does feel as though your on rails, very manoeuvrable at very low speeds.

Gearbox... In a word SH*TE and for me really lets the bike down.

All in all I'm loving the bike in most areas it's as good as my TC and then some....BUT...That gearbox it really does spoil what overall is a great package,I know that not everyone is experiencing problems but many appear to be doing so.
Hopefully it's a problem that can be solved, maybe I should have waited but I've never been known for my patience.

As I've said overall it's a great bit of kit but the gearbox is dreadful and if it's not fixable I would imagine that the bike will go.

Well I've had mine for a thousand miles now, only had one GS before this which was a twin cam which I liked but felt it was a bit underpowered so test rode the LC and loved the power and the flickerbility of it it felt lighter than the TC I've got used to the modes now and think there great, my gearbox doesn't seem as bad as some others but it's definitely not 100% I will be keeping an eye on what BMW do if anything, my luggage fits so that's a bonus but overall I have no regrets yet!!

Interesting reading, thanks for the honest feedback :thumby:

My bike is 5 weeks old and done 2500 miles.Just ridden mine back the 30 miles from Southport after the clutch was replaced. Can't say I'm that much happier with it. It is definitely better than it was but I rode home wondering what bike to get next :blast

That's 2 clutches replaced in 5 posts - may I ask what the issue is, were they replaced to help with shonky gear changes or was it something elese?

Mine being replaced after 3990km. Clanky, then start to be difficult to find neutral and with heavy throttle start to slip slide.

4000 Miles n a couple of hickups

Blimey time flies,

4000 miles mainly country lanes of Suffolk n Norfolk, and quick trip round Peco Mountains Spain.

I don't ride to work just for pleasure,

I can't keep off the the thing, like a small child at dinner can I get down now I wanna play LOL

Clutch has been changed and gearbox n neutral selection sorted, yes it is a bit clunky but so are most of my other bikes.

Comfort for a dwarf with lower seat option fine for 150 miles before I need a leg stretch, I noticed on recent long run the way the three others on the trip were fidgeting around long before I felt the need.

Weather protection n heated grips are good only backs of my legs getting covered in sh*te
Performance far more than I will ever need, I live in Road mode, and like the Rain mode option.

Brakes wow!

Handling even in rain soggy mode far far better than most of us will ever use.

Runs rings around mates n there Hinckley triples.

Fit n Finnish no problems with mine, scrubs up well does not really show any signs of wear or use yet.
Two up n luggage fine, couldnt feel the fidget fedgetting,

The issue with the clutch peed me off but don't put me off,

I currently have a issue with oil level warning going on and off but Cannons are fixing this Wednesday,

I'm small ish n not that strong but push it in n out of garage OK, turn it round in drive no problem, lot easier than old GS. (Sometimes I feel like small brother knocking big bros push bike tho lol)

Super Bike, Super Service from Cannon's marrd by clutch issue very slightly, might even buy another LOL

It's a bike to ride and you can be proud of if that makes sense. I have other bike that look good and are white to ride and vicky verky

I'm more confident on it than the 1150 or the Tiger.

OH the "Riding experience" is just SOoooooooooo 2013:D

Great so far, 1000 miles, no problems yet, gearbox is no worse than my old TC, SWIMBO prefers the pillion on this bike, LED lights and LED aux's are the best lights I've ever had on a bike.

Some very interesting and honest feedback there :clap

I've had mine since 2nd March and love it to bits, apart from the 1st gear clunk which is not all the time and not that bad the gearbox is fine. The clutch is light and I get no drag, gear selection through the box is fine, don't have any issues getting neutral - I can move it around in first with the clutch in, hot or cold.

I've only done just over 2k miles and its not used any oil, brake pads look to be ok.

Fit and finish is excellent - nothing's broken yet!

Boxes fit, no washers!

The side stand doesn't get in the way and as far as the gear lever or bars are concerned I've not moved them but may get bar risers.

Screen is great, don't see the need to change that.

I've made rad guards and intake filters, a mate made me a foot for the side stand and he's working on a rack plate, I will get engine bars and may be a Remus at some point. I've fitted a fender extender and will get a mud sling as soon as available..

Fuel consumption seems to be getting better.

I like the ESA and modes but may not go with that set up again.

The LED lights are fantastic..

My only two gripes are the heated grips. Not hot enough but hey I can probably live with that and the tyres, not happy with the Next's can't wait to get rid of them.

Balderston's were great as always and I have no problems with BM service so far.

I did try the 1190 after I'd brought the GS and I know, I'm, in the right place!

Planning a trip to the alps now, can't wait.....
