The wife is going to Villamoura for a long weekend with the girls....so me being me the ever opportunist suggested I would pick her up instead of her flying back home !!

So me and my best mate are riding down via the ferry to bilbao and are going to turn right and do the road to Potes, then head across west, to the tip of Portugal, then make our way down to collect the Doris. We have 9 days to get down to the bottom, then 12 days coming back.

Any POI's and top roads toride would be very much appreciated :D:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

I'll be very interested in your replies. Doing the same thing in May. Done the Potes bit which is great, but not been any further into western Spain or Portugal. :thumb2

You want someone to create you and your mate's three week tour from Bilbao, down to the bottom of Portugal / Spain and back again.... along with the Points of Interest and (natch) great roads. Not too much then.....

Q1. When are you going?

Q2. Have you bought any half decent maps?

Q3. Beyond
bilbao and are going to turn right and do the road to Potes
have you created any sort of routes in your (or your mate's) mind?

Q4. Did you not learn anything from your last tour of Spain, which bods on this site plotted out for you?

To be frank, you can do it between you and here's a start...

Get yourself a book called: Espana y todo el perineo en moto. Published by ANAYA Touring. It's nicely printed and, as a bonus has: Maps of routes and all of Portugal. This is what it looks like: http://www.anayatouring.com/novedades/espana-portugal-y-pirineos-en-moto/ and you can buy it via Amazon Spain here: http://www.amazon.es/España-Portugal-Pirineos-Moto-2014/dp/8499355250

Yes, it's in 'foreign' but that's what they speak and they can't be arsed to translate it. But hey, a map's a map, a route's a route and a photograph is, well, always a photograph.

It ordered mine by guessing what the Spanish Amazon site wanted me to do and BINGO! the booked dropped onto my mat a week or so later. With the ISBN number, there is a pretty good chance that any half decent bookshop in the UK could order one in. Ask, when you go to buy your maps.

Just go...and wander.
Recently did a 10 nights trip, staying 3 nights in Porto, but I'm not going to tell you where I stayed or where to ride because that is the fun bit.

I've done the picos de europa and then down to the south of spain then into portugal and back up, we planned nothing and the roads and rooms were fantastic. In portugal and spain you get sooo much for your money, hopefully the weather will be great, just enjoy it. There are hotels/rooms everywhere and have never had a problem finding a room and always great value.

Justin, you must have an idea where you went, I guess? Any great roads? A super hotel or two, perhaps?

Can you not put pen to paper and give the bod (and his mate) even the rough directions? His holiday, like the last, is maybe hanging via a thread.

Did a tour of Spain and Portugal in 2012, it was mostly a camping trip with a few hotels but you shouldn't have much trouble finding a hotel in any town or village so long as there isn't a festival,

Have to say most of the roads in Spain were first class, brilliant surface on roads that carried very little traffic and in Portugal the roads were good.

Have a look at this write up I did to get some ideas of places to go.

A2. have got some good maps with the scenic roads marked on....and have a fan-dabby-dozy twatnav;)

A3. not had chance to knock our heads together as yet.

A4. learnt lots from the last trip, but just thought peeps on here who have done more travelling in spain and portugal than our "1" trip could give a few pointers.....dont expect any planning by others....i'll do that...its half the fun of the trip

If you need help to plan your journey in Portugal just ask! ;-)

Braganca is well worth a stopover
We rode through the Serra da Estrela National Park last September via Manteigas. It was utterly superb
