Hi there.

just wondering if anyone has come across the following issues that I came across during a 3000mile round trip to stella alpina with plenty of alpine passes thrown in.

oil/water leak from water pump (i think) on right side of engine, think it may be result of overheating while riding at 80mph in 30+ temperatures (photo attached) sort of bleeds a bit. is there a seal problem?

lack of feel / bite on front brakes, would braided hoses help

and finally

very loose chain after long days on the motorway when fully loaded, chain has done 17000miles but sprockets are looking good, chain will not keen tension and I have very little slack to play with. Guessing I may need a new one or is this standard for a fully loaded 800.

Other than that 800 performed well doing motorway, trails, offroad and alpine passes with ease.

thanks in advance

i had one also with that problem the water pump seal has gone . i got mine replaced under warranty at 4 thou miles. as far as chains go your lucky to get past ten thou on the original chain. there not that good a quality.

oh dear, my warranty has just run out
sounds like an expensive replacement - emmmm :idea

motor works sell them for 130 pound, not sure how much genuine one is. how many miles on yours

i have about 17000miles on the clock, water leak past 1500miles and getting worse
will try that site - thanks for the heads up

am glad i got mine done wiyh just 2 weeks warranty left. hursts in mallusk done it for me no problems

Warranty is nothing more than a guarantee that BMW will repair without argument. What matters in law is whether it is reasonable for a water pump seal to go so quickly. If you have a nice polite word with the dealer you might very well find it will be done either for free or at reduced price.

And the ambient temperature has nothing to do with the seal going.

MZ chains are made of chocolate, even the so-called enhanced version fitted to later models.

Cheers Tim,

Will get on the BMW tomorrow and see how that goes! def getting a new chain and sprocket too, chocolate it is!

No other than I one offovertightening it has always been on the loose side.
The motorway miles fully loaded have taken a lot out of the chain
