I had been having some difficulty with comfort when on long runs on my 1150 which was made a lot better by fitting bar risers, but I was still not quite happy.

Just after Christmas I contacted Migsel to order a new product he was selling. Unfortunately he was temporarily out of stock, but in fairness to him he kept in regular contact updating me on progress. Thanks Michel. :thumb2

Two weeks ago the postie handed me this.

It was my Saturday off this weekend, so I resolved to get around to fitting the new footrests. It's my first time to do this, but it was quite easy. For those of you thinking of this mod I decided to do a photo essay.

This split pin and washer must first be removed form the original footrest.

When you drive the pin out you are left with these pieces.

The little info sheet which comes with the footrests says you can fit them without using the spring, but I wanted to have the springs fitted. It was necessary for the springs to be adapted to suit though.

This is the hanger with the footrest removed. You can see the little hole which the spring fits into.

When I fitted the spring into the new footrest and offered it up it became obvious that the spring was not going to relocate into the original keeper hole, so I drilled another.

When I tried it again the amount of hinge on the footrest was somewhat restricted so I cut a little notch in the body of the footrest to allow it some more movement.

Next up was adjusting the rear brake pedal to suit the now lower footrest. I set the pedal roughly by eye to a position I thought would work for me. In order to achieve the desired setting I had to replace the adjusting bolt under the pedal for a longer one.

Then it was just a matter of adjusting the rear master cylinder pushrod to suit.

The settings for the pedal position and the pushrod setting can be fine tuned after I have ridden the bike to see how it all feels.

My final job was to lower the gearchange lever. This is quite easy too.
Release the circlip round the linkage rod then lift it out.

Then prise the rod socket off the ball joint on the lever.

Screw the rod socket out to the approximate length required, grease the socket then refit.

That’s it. All you need now is a test ride to check that the gear and brake pedal positions are comfortable for you. :thumb

I went out Saturday afternoon to meet up with Jockser and Daithi who were up here for the weekend. A perfect opportunity to test the new pegs

The difference when riding the bike was very noticeable right away. I have knackered knees, so having my feet lower has made a great difference. I think the discomfort issue has been resolved.

After 225 miles out on the bike over the weekend I am very happy with the new footrests. I had initially thought that I would experience some vibration through the pegs without the rubber inserts which the standard footrests have, but they are vibe free.

I’m glad that I fitted the springs as I have caught my legs on the pegs a few times over the weekend and they just snapped back into position. It will probably happen a few more times as I adapt to them .

I don’t do much off-roading, but it is much easier to ride the bike standing on the pegs now. It’s hard to describe how it feels, but it seems much more balanced and I don’t feel that I’m towering above the bike quite as much.

A small bit of fine tuning of the brake and gear lever positions will be needed. The brake lever is just a tad low and the gear lever is a smidgeon too high. Ten minutes some of these evenings should sort those though.

For me this is the best €79 I have spent on my bike. The quality of the pegs is very good and the service from Migsel was exemplary. Thanks again Michel. :thumb
