Not sure if this is right place to put this does anyone no the law on these , my wife has just passed test and needs a restricted bike , according to bike shops if we buy a bike thats all ready done its no good for us as our name is not on certificate ,also the same on buying second hand kit , i have spoken to dvla 5 people and local police they don't no ?????? spoke to VOSA they were more helpfull but not definate they thought so long as one was fitted it was legal but he said a dyno print out would be a good safe guard as he understands it , as that is how the police would check

Since anyone can print a certificate or a dyno printout, and they aren't officially recognised or have any sort of standard then it doesn't matter who's name is on the certificate.

No official records of restricted bikes are kept either, so as long as you are happy that the bike would pass an inspection by police or VOSA then :thumb

Thats my thinking i'm hgv engineer and don't want to pay somebody £250 to replace ecu 2 plugs under seat or fit washers in inlet rubbers :thumb

That's right you know. It would be up to the police or insurance company to prove it isn't. They will also insure it for the same price as an unrestricted one as well.

Buy an F650GS or F650 CS the 2000 onward should have a dual cable run on the throttle cam at the throttle body and a bracket

04 BRACKET FOR ACCELERATOR BOWDEN CABLE 37 KW 1 13547654888 $8.92
only applies to double cable disc
04 BRACKET FOR ACCELERATOR BOWDEN CABLE 25 KW 1 13547653277

Easy Peasy BUT you need to check that there is a wide throttle cam at the throttle body with two cable runs

It's been a while since I was in the plod but my thinking on this is that the law says the bike must be restricted for 2 years. It does not say you need a certificate. As above, if you're happy the bike will pass inspection by the relevant authorities, should the need arise, then you shouldn't have a problem. My son purchased a restrictor kit last year, but that was after several backstreet mechanics had offered him a certificate with his name on it for half he price ....... on the understanding that if caught, he'd removed the non existent kit from the bike. There in lies the pointless nature of certificates.
