3500 Mile Review of R1300GSA ASA

Each to his own. On my GSA 1250 quick shifter it was very clunky, crap between 1st and 2nd and absolutely jerky. Some say they never used the quick shifter from 1st to 2nd anyway.
The ASA is not like a modern car automatic where you don’t even notice the change.
Actually I like to have a bit of a feel when the gear changes especially if accelerating hard. Again my choice. I don’t know what the Wing DSG does but in my mind I like the ASA.
Also I love the manual option where I can control which gear I want to be in without the machine choosing for me.
But then I need to get the bike and ride it for a bit 😁😁
Each to his own I say….

Have you one arm ? It’s just not for me , not the one arm but the lack of input .
No I don’t but I’m just saying it opens up the possibility for disabled people, I love the dct and hopefully will love the BMW’s new auto I have brought everyone is different and luckily like different things.

I have the GS with ASA and it's not perfect and can be jerky at times but you have to work with it and get to know it's querks. If it hasn't changed gear when you are in a different frame of mind for riding than it wants then just change manually. Eg if it's going up the gears as you accelerate and you get to a point where you would now be happy just cruising in 6th just change up rather than waiting for it to do it.

Only problem I have, and I think it is a fault, it won't go into 1st gear after stopping and restarting. E.G. stopping for petrol, start the engine, press down on the gear lever & nothing happens, I keep trying but it just stays in neutral. I have to switch the ignition off & start the engine again and it goes into 1st when pressing the lever.
Does anyone else have this problem ?.

Reading this thread makes me feel like a fucking dinosaur!! Lol
I’ve never owned a bike with automatic suspension, quick shifter or even cruise control. And I was dragged kicking and screaming into ABS!! I don’t have speakers in my helmet and never listen to anything other than my bike and the faint wind noise through my earplugs. This year was the first time I mounted my phone on the handlebars.
When I bought my present GSA new back in 2018, I ordered it with fuck all except heated grips and spot lights (which I’ve maybe used 5 or 6 times and doubt I’ll buy again) I almost immediately bought a Sargent seat cause I couldn’t do more than 100 miles without a sore arse!! Rather than all the electronic bullshit, why can’t BMW fit their bikes with a comfy seat and something that fuels correctly!!
To me, the BMW GS doesn’t fit the auto everything image. I will eventually conform and go down this route like an obedient sheep, but it’ll probably be on a Yamaha T Max or a Wing.
Just a thought for your penny 😬

Just been out on one….

I have the ASA and find the gearbox in manual mode very smooth, auto is ok if tootling about but in the bends manual is fine, the seat I have a sheepskin cover on and again find it ok at the moment if it gets too hard I will put a airflow cover on it.
The bike being stuck in Park so you cant push it only seems to happen if you switch it off whilst still in gear (I might be wrong mind) but one thing I do like is when its looked in park its gonna take some moving to nick.
They are a big chunk of cash and I hated it when it was released but it did grow on me once I saw it in the dealers.
I found exactly the same with both modes that you have. Both on the GS and GSA. So did the guy I went out with.

I must say that I always find ‘hard’ seats to often be much more supportive on a long ride.
When you sit on a ‘comfy’ seat , as I did with the 1250, I kind of knew it would probably be crap later on, and it was .
When you sit on a seat and it gives and feels plush, that is what normally comes back to bite you in the arse later that day as that plushness then causes sores, as your sit bones aren’t supported.
But when you sit on a firm , supportive seat, it doesn’t feel comfy but then it never gets uncomfortable.
I’ve said it many times, but the couple of Renazco seats I’ve had never felt comfy-very hard memory foam tailored to your specific height/weight etc and good for huge mileages such as nearly 700 in a day on my 701.
Completely agree. Also, Tony Archer of VFR seat refurb fame said that when people say their seat is too hard, it normally needs padding properly because it's too thin and they are sitting on the plastic frame. He was right about mine.
