Bought a pair of these from Ebay, instead of buying the complete assy. Original stems are cracked and sagging.
The metal retaining hooks pulled out within a day. Got a 50% refund.
Dont know what adhesive the vendor used, but hardly any of it.
When I epoxyed them back in place, I roughed them up with a file.
Unlike the original stems, these dont have any reinforcing bushes in place to stop tightening the screws too tight and deforming the stem. So, not convinced about their longevity. But, had to buy them and find out.
Then I remembered that years ago, I had problems with a side panel. One of the retaining holes had become a slot, due to the plastic breaking.
I cut up a cable tie, trimmed it to suit and superglue it into place, panel now has a hole and not a slot.10 years later, still holding up.
Anyway, back to the point. I used the same technique on the cracked stems. Cleaned them up with Isopropanol, superglued the cut to length cable ties longitudally, finished the job off with self amalgamating rubber tape. See how these stand the test of time.
I only replaced a complete assy. last year and that's already cracked. Maybe they were NOS, and degraded with age?
