My HP Laserjet 100 is prompting to renew the black toner - 10% left (colour toners still have 30%). I have been running with the original toner supplied with the printer when new and have printed well over 500 pages.

Question is has anyone any experience of using non-HP toner as a replacement? Seems to be hugely cheaper than HP toner, but is it safe in as far as messing up the printer...

Chips

I cannot comment on the printer you use, but I fitted a chip killer had my samsung colour laser printer and have been using spurious toner from http://www.refilltoner.com/ for the last 3 years without any problems. I just remove the plug from the end of the toner cartridge and pour in the new toner when the colour goes light.

I have a Laserjet 1022 and have used compatible replacements from Choice Stationery from Day 1 - most of their compatible stuff is branded 'Think' but not always. Never had an issue...they are have always been ultra-reliable too.

I think you need to take care as sometimes a chip is installed in the printer cartridges to try and stop you reusing them after a while. Printer manufacturers like you to buy their cartridges at exorbitant prices to ensure they have a steady income stream. If HP use one of these chips you should be able to find something on eBay to get around the chip limitation. Don't think there will be any problem using non HP inks as a replacement though.

We had Epson and HP printers; have been running much cheaper third party toners from a number of companies for the Epspns for years with no problems at all. Had problems with every batch of third party toners we tried for the HP printers, so got rid of them and only run Epsons now

I use IJT for toners in my Samsung lazer on my 3rd or 4th set with no probs. JJH
