40 days old and subframe paint gone!

Post up the pics and let the UKGSER 'Massiv' decide how bad it is

You've nothing to losr now:augie

Glad to hear you've still got a proper GSA................................the 1150 :augie

9.5 years and 49k on mine and not a spot of rust on it (must be the cosy garage)

:D

One day JB one day and you'll also be on a wasser cooler.

:)

Mmmmm looking at that picture looks like slight friction wear from flapping trousers , though not ideal ,, I see no rust and a bit of helitape job done .i put that stuff on various bits of mine from new and no signs of wear yet.Agreed you should not have to ,but the non toxic water based paints are not as durable .Not a big deal .You should see my 40000 mile XR400 out in Cambodia 😎enjoy riding your bike :thumby:

I have a new 64 plate GSA TE and alreday the paint just up from the supposed heal guards has worn through to the bare metal,I dont wear crosser style boots I use alpinestars smx4's and bmw rallye trousers over the top down to my ankles, this I might expect after a couple of years or hard ridding with mx boots but after just 40 days of ownership and just going to and from work etc wtf!!! The heal guards are just shit bendy plastic and all this on the worlds greatest adventure bike...??? I love the bike dont get me wrong but this is poor...! My 10yr old gsa 1150 hasnt even worn in the same place after 10yrs!.. warannty claim..?

thanks rob

this was the OP's post . Compare his post to his picture.

:D

How easily you forget the many 1150 owners who did have corrosion issues on their 1150's Johnny. But let's not let the truth get in the way of another dig at the LC GS owners.:D

PS Amended your post for you :D:D

This frame rub is not the first ! Did mark Hooton not make some stainless guards for someone whom had the same issue .

PS Amended your post for you :D:D

31st October actually :)

I agree some did Bob

No dig, just tongue in cheek Bob

You sticking with the Honda CT or upgrading to a GS WC :)

Most issues of this type are caused by owner error

As Robbo says, you shouldn't have too, but 10 mins, when new with some clear tape would have protected that bike for life

Standard bmw (party line) reply to any sub-standard finish now seems to be ' Ah but European regulations mean we have to use water based paints and they are not as good, sorry nothing we can do about it', yes there is powder coat the frame, stands and engine casings , it would probably mean you make 50 euros less profit per bike but save a fortune on warranty claims for the shite finish

Just wait till you start riding bike when there is salt on the roads!!! The WC bike will melt before your eyes

Worn frame paint :D :thumby:

Looks like the swingarm is on the way out on this worn, badly scuffed by Rob's boots:blast

Thanks the issue was not apparent (to me) in the other pic, helicopter tape for the frame rails and the swingarm will clean up with Armor all, phew-problem solved ;)

I wasn't far out then :)

The Crosstourer will be put up for sale in the Spring. In the meantime I have bought a GSA LC :D It's a used example and what a treat it is after the Crosstourer.

I wouldn't call it rider error, but more of riding styles and where riders place their feet on the footrests and end up rubbing up against the sub frame. I notice that Giles has noticed wear on his new KTM already within a few days of purchase and has had to do the 3M tape treatment. I'm not so sure if the more resistant paints of the past would have been able to resist such rubbing from some riders.

I think that's a very fair point and my answer would be that I suspect not.

Funilly I was thinking of Giles  on the way into work this morning and was trying to get my boots (MX boots) to rub the frame on mine. I couldn't get anywhere near it (well I could but it felt all wrong).

paint still good on my KTM. i think it's about the way you place and move your feet, and how far your trousers flap.

i'm only surprised andres's hippie loon pants haven't scrubbed his frame clean :D
