Hi,

Who are the best companies to use for motorcycle insurance for an old bike (40 years) that will also provide a guaranteed value

Would be good if they covered two bikes under one policy as my other bike is 36 years old

I know this has been discussed before but cannot find.

Thanks

Join the VMCC, then use Peter James who give a sizeable discount for VMCC members, which exceeds the membership costs. Plus they provide quality cover, breakdown, agreed value, ride other bikes of vmcc members plus more. There is also a monthly quality VMCC mag, which is a good read.

Or Lynbrook.

Agreed values

I use Carol Nash and have bikes 20 to 70 years old. I've never asked them for agreed values as I think they will only pay out what a bike is worth if you had a total loss claim! My opinion only!

I used RH for my 1976 Triumph when I had it, good price and breakdown included. But like any broker check the small print, I never had a claim with them and it’s people who have experienced the claims process of any company you ought to be listening too.

For those with classic bikes/cars how does the agreed value work? Does it have to be based on anything such as current or average market/auction values plus say the costs incurred in restoring, or is it simply state a figure of what you think its worth and the broker adjusts the price accordingly?

With VMCC and Peter James, up to 10k is on purchase price above needs photos etc and then they agree or not

Thanks for that. I'm re-commissioning a '75 Rover P6 V8 and like many heart based decisions it's quite easy to spend quite a bit lot of £££s to get to where you want!

CN do agreed value on classics and they can combine a multi bike policy for newer bikes . Ridiculous that the modern bikes have to have an agreed mileage but the classics on the policy are unlimited mileage

Thanks for all the replies, that’s plenty to work through

Just did this and saved about £100

Cheers!

Id normally say Peter James but they hiked my premium substantially recently. I tried Carol Nash and got agreed value and a premium about 30% less. Give them a try?
