just checked the recorded top speed on my 2610 today, i check and delete every day, just in case. well, today i checked it and bloody hell it`s recorded 445 MPH. see photo. I drive a 1.9 passat! The only thing i done different in the last day was play a bit of music on a mp3 player that i recieved s/h from a club member. spooky! at least i dont have to delete the top speed anymore... see photo below.. mp3 player now on hire £20 a week. never one to miss an opertunity..

Actually it wasn't you that went faster - it's just the earth rotated a bit quicker for a moment and the geo stationary satellites registered it. It's a common phenomenon known in the trade as 'Geo spin' . Sorry but hiring out your MP3 player to impress other GPS users is just never going to take off however if you want a pair of my patented gravity-plus boots I'd be happy to send you the details. Only $650 a pair and you are guaranteed not to be flung off the accelerating planet if you wear my boots ;)

strange

coz it`s never done it before, and i`ve had one of these things a long time now, has it happened to anyone else in the last day? nick

I'll have to remember that the next time I get pulled over. :D :D

You went under some trees or in and out of some tunnels as well didn't you Nick???

This happens when the GPS only picks up 2 satellites for a bit......so the position wanders a bit.........then when it snaps back to your correct position, it calculates the speed from the place it thought you were to the place you actually are, and gives you the speed between the two over the time it was 'off'.

Mind you, if you're in the pub at a meet this year showing people your top speed, we'll all nod and gape in wonder at you, ya big hero you ;)

:D

You're a slowcoach there, Nick.......;)

Not too many civilian aircraft do that sort of speed, Nick.

The reason it happened was that I was going to France last summer, switched it off as I got onto the ferry in Poole then switched it back on when I got to Cherbourg. The GPS had to relocate itself & calculated that speed as it repositioned itself across the channel.

Then again....... Maybe I've been practising for the IOM this summer. Who needs a GSXR?.......:D ;)
