My idea to knock off 700 miles over a long weekend to and from Luxembourg, came up trumps; 999 miles displayed just as we pulled into a cafe on the last day.

The bike cruises at a genuine 70 mph in sixth at (give or take) 5,800 rpm. By cruise, I mean that the bike will accelerate reasonably comfortably from there, up to about 8,000 rpm. OK, it’s certainly no rocket ship but the performance is certainly more than adequate.

What is it ‘best at’? Like its smaller 411 sister, it’s probably ‘best’ sitting at around 60 mph, trundling along as it were.

Problemss? Touch wood, nothing besides the offside chain adjuster bolt and end plate, both parting company. The dealer is getting one in but has offered to pull one off their demonstration bike, if I want them to. The chain is still reasonably well adjusted, so I’m in no immediate rush.

The chain is reasonably well adjusted-unlike the owner 😜

That's good going is there anything you miss about the 411?

The 411 remains a very good motorbike. It is equally comfortable all day, has a very similar miles per gallon return and is equally simple to maintain. All the 450 has done is gain a pretty decent uplift in power (40 odd hp versus low 20’s), a more modern screen, some updated hand controls, water cooling and a ‘better’ set of suspension….. and costs more to buy.

I owned and rode the 411 on some of the busiest motorways in south east England and in London, all without a problem. I also rode it along the motorways, N and D roads of France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, without a problem. I have now ridden the 450 along all the same roads, again without a problem. Ride both or either bike, quite happily; each bike has its limitations and charm but both are different from each other.

Does the 450 need refuelling by 1830 ? 🤔

Ha, ha, ha…. It is vaguely amusing to watch the current fuel consumption. The counter stops at 99.9 mpg. I am not sad enough to write down the fuel put in and record the mileage ridden, but whatever it is, the bike (like the 411) doesn’t guzzle motion lotion.

So I’m up to 350 ish miles and ready for first service next week .
Been in Brittany for 2 days to run it in .
Bit of a pain as first service is due 3-400 miles .

Running in is something like
0-310 miles 4000 rpm
310-1250 miles 6000 rpm
1250- gun da fucker.

So I’ve been trying to stick below 4000 ish which equates to 50 mph.

But the bike has been brilliant .

The luggage I bought consisting of four Lomo bags and an Oxford tank bag have performed brilliantly, especially the latter which just zips off to leave a secure harness

The bike fits just right with bar risers and Pivot Pegz. Perfect for standing up .

I have the Adventure Rider and Pillion seat , ie the ‘comfort’ version .

It’s firm and pretty good but could be better .

Navigation using Chigee and MRA via CarPlay has been faultless .
Also tried the inbuilt Google Maps nav and it’s very good

Perfect for A to B to C but Chigee/MRA better for complicated routes .

If using inbuilt nav you need the TFT to be in digital mode for big screen map . Easiest way is to hold down Mode button on right bar for 5 seconds which will switch from Analogue to Digital.

Suspension and handling is ace as are the TKC70s I fitted from day one

Fuel consumption is amazing at 90 mpg giving 280 miles plus 40 reserve .

Faults ?

Very few . The gearing could be closer between 1st and 2nd as 2nd is a bit too tall when off road on nadgery stuff .

Great bike oversll

Home tomorrow. First service next week then the Picos beckons in two weeks .

Bring it on

I kept the revs low ish till first service at about 400 miles, under 6k. Been taking it to 9k regularly since. Dealer gave the impression would run better if i wasnt too cautious with it. Never returns under 75mpg average. Get it thrashed.

I also fitted the Barkbusters bar end weights to their hand guards . No vibes whatsoever though to be fair I didn’t ride it much without them so can’t compare

288 miles in a couple of days at over 90 mpg . That’s more than my ADV350 did !!IMG_1690.jpeg
