45000 Miles in 45 Days on a 1200GSA!

I have done several IBA rides of 1000 miles in 24 hours including a UK four corners 1800 miles in 36 hours with 5 hours rest included.
A 1000 miler in 24 hours is easy to do work to your tank range don't delay at fuel stops usually 21-23 hours at the speed limits but 45 days at that pace??
Better man than me Gunga Din how are you going get enough rest, service the bike, at least three tyre changes all built in as you get more tired you will do less distance each day the law of diminishing returns.
Not to mention traffic/ RTA delays and he's on a BMW:eek:

I've never done motorway / dual carriageway long distances. Maximum has been 200 mile commute.

All my riding is twisties, and 300 miles and 12 hours is enough for me.

How you do 1000 miles every day for 45 days is beyond my ability.

Ability aside, why would you. Personally I have never understood the attraction of the IBA rides in the first place. Pointless, polluting, painful ....... I've run out of Ps, but you get the idea.

Each to their own I guess.

I always do UK to Portugal (and return) in around 24-28 hours including the train crossing, it is 1350 miles and it completely fucks me, to do 1000 miles a day for 45 days is incredible and I have no comprehension of just how you would do that.

I'm more impressed by Mark Beaumont. 240 miles/day for just under 80 days (RTW)....on a push bike....:bow :bow :bow

If, you HAVE to be at a destination I can see the rational, 4K in 4•5 days is my youthful record, but 45 days worth.

What are they a fucking masochist?

Have covered 1940km in one day

and have no desire to repeat the experience.

However, I started to think of the fuel costs involved, and it will probably be in the region of £9 - £10,000.
Yes, I know that sound excessive, but to cover the distances suggested in the time available, fuel consumption goes through the roof.

I have just read this article and find it totally surreal.

In my life I have done 2 one thousand mile days, one at age 29 on an R100RS (Tinnitus for life), and one at age 49 on a GSPD.

On each occasion I had to be virtually lifted from my bike at the end, and it was around 2 weeks before I was able to ride again.

But in truth, why? Take the car FFS. :nenau

If he did just another 5000 miles, it would be equivalent of riding around the world TWICE

How about 1450 straight on an HP2 with a less than 100 mile safe tank range, I was actually filling up every c80 Miles. The first 18 hours through that October night in the pissing rain. Never again I said (for the second time in my life) then after 3 days trail riding it was time to ride home...For that I decided taking 3 days would be better :D

45 days of it I just can’t imagine, although I do get what’s his face doing round the world in 19 days with Mrs what’s his face on the back

Absolutely crazy in my opinion. Doing that type of mileage is bound to affect concentration, which won’t help. Think my record is around 750 one day coming back from Germany, trough the tunnel and then from Dover to Lake District . I wouldn’t want to do it again either .

I’ve not read the article, and have no intention to, but was that over 45 consecutive days?

my younger brother came from st. omer in france through the tunnel and up to aberdeen with just fuel, food and loo stops. bike was a tiger 800 with his wife on the back.

I have the same question.
Second question would be: why?

I'm seriously impressed though.

I routinely ride down to Italy and sometimes I do some pretty long legs on motorway too, but I can do it for 1 or 2 days max. And it's never a pleasant experience I'd want to repeat.

Seriously, WTF:

I did 1180 miles from Indianapolis to Breckenridge Colorado, across I-70, in under 24 hours, on an ST1100 Pan European in 2011. I spent a lot of the time standing up on the pegs, leaning into the wind at 80 mph in an attempt to stay cool in the 40 deg + temperatures with 98% humidity and to ease the pain in my arse. Iron butt be damned....:blast

My record is 560 miles in a day without touching a motorway

1000 a day is/would easy if you sit on big M ways at big speeds but who in their right minds wants to do that and then to do it for 45 days ...

Man is an imbecile
