Day one


We always meet at Tesco Ashford when we use the tunnel, it’s convenient for a last full tank of English petrol and a meal deal for the train.


This year we went out on Friday 15th May, I’d booked the Holiday Inn Coquelles because I was expecting delays with the new ees and didn’t want to risk missing a 7pm dinner! As we all know now it was postponed so we got to the hotel nice and early, just as well because I managed to destroy my helmet camera lead on the way to Ashford, one end managed to detach itself and landed on the exhaust which melted it, a 30 minute walk each way to Citi Europe to get a temporary replacement for £13, worked all trip but am about to order the correct one.

Coquelles apparently doesn’t relate to these at all but there were lots wandering around the grounds.

Saw this old beast on my walk.

Day 2
Relatively boring day riding down to the Best Western Epinal, timed our lunch stop perfectly to avoid the hail.

Was a tad nervous about the showers in the morning.

Until we found the switch by the towels after one of our group saw another one naked!

Day 3
Epinal to Lindau, bumped into this motley crew with their own support minibus.

Lindau to Attinghausen

Day 5
Attinghausen to Sedrun
Had a few teething issues with the MRA app so I got chat gpt to do a route which we then imported to MRA, worked almost perfect (operator error).



Unfortunately we didn’t read, see or understand the sign at the bottom off this dead end.

Resulting in a 90 minute enforced break.

We then ran into a film crew trying (without much success apparently) to get footage of this Daniel Craig lookalike in a DB5 for a new sunglass brand with super fast reactolight lenses that change from clear to dark in milliseconds, £300-£500 a pair when they launch.


Not the correct plate, it actually lives in Berlin on German plates.

Day 6
Sedrun to Kaunertal
Through Davos (terrible photo but famous hotel)

And on to the Fluella Pass where I got stuck in the snow (avatar) 2009, weeks ago were lucky this pass was open

Where this guy was just amazing

moved his car out of his carport for us

Gave us a room each for the same price as it was quiet, cooked us dinner cause everything else was shut.

Day 7
Kaunertal to Lienz

Some lovely cars around



Vergeiners Hotel Traube, not the best view from our room but the swimming pool on the top floor had a 360 view of the mountains.

Day 8
Lienz to Salzburg
Possibly the best day I’ve ever spent on a bike

Grossglockner early doors ish, cold, crisp, empty, superb









Then on to The Eagles Nest

Day 9
Lienz to Karsruhe
I’d never heard of this city, no idea how to pronounce it until I googled it kaalz roo uh, but what a place.
I’d somehow managed to book into the oldest building/hotel in the city at 300 years old, also by chance they gave me the best room there is, corner room with 4 windows and efficient air conditioning.

Day 10
Karlsruhe to Reims
Secure carpark, quite important in Reims at the moment apparently

Again, left the alcoholics in a bar and went off for a wander, not too far cause it was close to 30 degrees

Apparently the widest arch in the Roman world

Which was hosting a classic car show that was just ending as I arrived

Temperatures before Thursday were between 2 and 15 then it got hot.

I’m just waiting on the toll charges from my tag, so far everything, food, fuel, hotels (sharing rooms) etc, I didn’t have any alcohol this trip, it’s cost me £1684 before tolls.

It’s the first trip in 20 years that we’ve all had GSA’s so it was much better for fuel stops, my 1200, 2 1250’s & 2 1300’s, nobody dropped their bike this year, first time ever that we haven’t had a drop, puncture or any other non miner incident.

Danny did anyone have an aftermarket pipe, and if so did the local law raise any eyebrows? I believe they can be very hot on such things.
