500 Miles in and have questions.

I’ve done nearly 6000 miles on mine now in the last 5 months and having had 2 x 1250GSA’s I personally think the gearbox is notchier and clunkier than the 1250. It clunks into 1st more heavily, upshifting isn’t too bad but downshifting especially in the lower gears is more jerky and clunky too (in my opinion)
Thanks for reply someone whos not wearing their rose tinted gs glasses.

Be carefull what you say some of the 1300 owners cant take a bit of criticism of their new steeds.

Gearbox. I had my 2021 R1250GS for 18 months and tried repeatedly to get used to using the quick shifter, it’d only work 3rd upwards at above 4K revs and accelerating, going down the box was hopeless and I gave up on it altogether in the end.
The 1300 one is revelation compared to that and I now love using what I previously thought was a useless gimmick, up and down.
Both bikes clunk into first and aren’t exactly smooth between first and second.

I dont think there are many bikes that don't clunk into 1st.
It's fascinating how the same bikes or people's opinions of them differ so much.
My 1250 gearbox was OK like the 2 1200's before it ,not shite and not brilliant ,it's something I was prepared to accept because the GS is so good in many other ways.
My 1300 is not that much improved considering its a whole new box it's OK but not brilliant, imo of course.😁

Think the clunk into first came with the wet clutch of the water cooled gs, the older gs bikes 1150 and 1200 with the dry clutch didn’t clunk into first 👍 but yes I think all modern bikes clunk into first

Hmmm... a journalist at the time described the noise of an R1100GS selecting first as being "like someone pushing a forklift over in an empty warehouse". 😀
I never had an R1100GS 👍 although did have a R1100RS I don’t remember a clunk or the bike twitching forward on engaging first though🫣

Been out again this morning, it rained for a change :blast 2 positive points:

The Metzeler tyres seem fine in the wet

The engine seems to have quietened down, it’s noticeably less rattly when hot 👍

Dry clutch
It wouldn’t
Like I said above 🤔
