Just picked up my 1200GS after its annual service and I have the feeling the idling is rougher, especially when cold. It seems to miss beats occassionally. Also it seems to hunt slightly at constant throttle, when trickling along in 1st or 2nd at around 2K rpm

Question is, is my memory fooling me or do BMW play around with fueling/synchronization at the annual service?

is yours a 2010 ? I had the same feeling with mine after its first 6000 service and there was a noticeable deepening of the exhaust note at tickover it seemed to me. the bill said they had checked engine sychronisation and throttle balance. funny thing is that after riding it for a while it now seems smoother than ever. I wonder if the ECU has some kind of update mechanism taking in data as you ride or its more sensitive to quality of fuel . I use high octane but not always shell. Anyway fact is after the same initial concerns that you have I am now totally happy. so maybe the whole thing is just subjective.:blast
