550 assistance please

Updated my 550 to the latest maps (2012.10) earlier this week with no problems.

Got a software update reminder for v4.90 and updated.

Zumo is now totally screwed

There is no detail on the maps - looks as if it's just displaying basemap.

Searching for a town name using the spell option brings up german? towns first but not any small towns in UK.

Try to search for an address and the unit locks up!

Off to Slovakia on the ferry from Newcastle on tuesday so well f*cked if one of you bright lads can't help.

Just spotted this..........and it rings a bell.

I seem to remember from my 550 days that a big 'must not do' when the update download process is finished is to unplug the USB cable and power up manually. You have to allow the 550 to reboot whilst still connected and that will finish the process and initialise the system correctly. I may have got the exact procedure a bit garbled as it was a long time ago but you might get the idea.

So why not try a hard reset, pull any SD card that you might have installed, connect up to your Garmin page and reload the updates. Let us know mate and good luck .
